Ashton halts, and presses against me until my back meets the wall. His lips devour mine, the kiss sharp and possessive. I twist his shirt in my hands as I kiss him harder, but it only increasesthe ache between my legs. His dark eyes lock with mine before he steps back and grabs my hand to pull me inside.

Our breaths are ragged and loud until his mouth reclaims mine again. It’s frenzied and chaotic—our touching and teasing all day left little patience for foreplay. Our mouths work together, stirring up that heat in my belly. He guides me backward toward his bed, his mouth still fused with mine, until I draw back.

“Clothes off,” I say breathlessly as I go straight for the button on my jeans, tugging them and my underwear over my hips before stepping out of them. This isn’t romantic—this is blind desperation. I’m still pulling off my shirt and unclasping my bra, but he’s already naked and ripping the foil package of the condom with his teeth.

I crawl onto the bed and lie down. The soft, cooling sensation of the sheets is such a contrast to my burning skin. Desire floods me. The sunlight streams through his room, showing every ridge and hard plane of his body. The ache below now turns into a throb.

As he moves over me, his hands skim my sides, making me shiver. When we are skin on skin, I lift my head and catch his bottom lip between my teeth. I want all of him, not just the sweet side. I want the wild and crazy side too. “Stop holding back.”

In a blink his eyes turn feral and all self-control leaves him. His lips meet mine, pressing hard, and he thrusts all the way in, drowning out my cry with the kiss. His touch is rougher this time, bound by desperation. Our bodies slam together in brutal symphony. It feels so good... too good. Without hesitation, his tongue enters my mouth. Our mouths are slick, hot, and greedy. He rocks against me, and I cling to his shoulders, digging my fingers in as he claims me.

This is what I’m craving. I need this; I need him. There’s something powerful about making him lose his mind, and I loveit. He plunges harder and faster, and I meet him eagerly with each thrust. My body heats further, my legs quivering. He grabs my ass, driving into my body. We are wild. I can feel myself tightening, squeezing and clasping his cock. It’s his groan that makes me fall with him as euphoria rushes through my body.

We lie in his bed in a tangle of sweaty limbs. Just like when we entered the room, our heavy breathing is the only thing I can hear.

He props himself up on an elbow and kisses my damp forehead. “See,” he says through a wicked smile, “I told you I created a monster.”

CHAPTER

TWENTY-TWO

MIA

The days blurtogether while I spend time with Ashton. Mom has rearranged her appointments, and yesterday she went to her first support group.

Ashton

Your mom was at my house last night.

How did it go?

I heard our moms crying, then laughing later on, so I guess it went okay.

That bringsa big smile to my face, so I go in search of Mom to have a conversation with her about it. She and Nana are out the back, chatting over their cups of coffee.

“Here she is,” Nana says cheerfully as I walk out and sit down next to them.

“Did you have a good sleep?” Mom asks, and she’s glowing. It still surprises me how much better she looks.

“Yes, I did. How did your group session go?”

“Good,” she beams. “It’s interesting to hear other people’s stories and how they are doing. There’s a man named Geoff who was at the same rehabilitation center as I was, and he’s in that same support group.”

I raise a brow at her. “Oh, really,” I tease. Nana smirks.

Mom blushes, dismissing me with a wave of her hand. “It’s nothing like that.”

“Mm-hmm. I heard you went to see Jade last night.”

Her smile brightens as she stares off like she’s recalling last night’s events. “I did, and it was great to spend time with her, but I’m still in shock. I can’t believe her and Darren got a divorce.”

“I didn’t know that.” Though I thought something like that had happened.

She tilts her head, frowning at me. “Don’t say I said anything.”

My eyes flash wide. “It’s Ashton’s family. I would never say a thing to anyone. What happened?” The words spill from my lips before I can reel them back in. My heart’s in my throat. Ashton should be the one I talk to about this, not Mom.

“Ashton’s father’s a criminal lawyer in Las Vegas. Before your accident, he wanted Jade and Ashton to leave with him, but she wouldn’t because this is her home and Ashton refused...” Her mouth opens like she wants to add more, but she forces her mouth closed, stopping herself.
