“I just figured since you were looking at me but not saying anything that maybe I had something on my face or hanging out of my nose.”
“No.”
“Okay. Well, can you tell me why you’re staring at me like this? Because I’m feeling more than a little self-conscious right now.”
“Just having a hard time believing we’re here together.”
If any other guy said that to me, I’d immediately think they were lying, but something about the way Matthias looks when those words come out of his mouth makes me think he’s honestly in disbelief that we’re sitting here like we are at this moment.
Not that I can blame him. If anyone had asked me this morning if I could ever imagine myself spending time with Matthias King, I would have laughed in their face and asked what kind of drugs they were doing. I’ve believed the oldest King son hated me for years, so imagining us together like we are right now would have been impossible.
Yet here we are. Even more incredible is how we spent the day together.
“Should I pinch you? Would that make it more believable?” I ask, reverting to my usual defense mechanism, humor.
For a few seconds, he looks at me like he can’t figure out if I’m sincere or not, but then his smile returns, brightening up his entire face. “I don’t think you have to do that. I mean, unless that’s your thing. If it is, I don’t mind getting a little rough.”
Now it’s my turn to stare at him in disbelief. “Did you just make a sex joke?”
He shakes his head and chuckles. “No. A sex joke would be something like why does Santa Claus have such a big sack?”
I shake my head as not a single answer comes to mind. “I have no idea.”
Grinning, Matthias says, “He only comes once a year.”
My mouth drops open in shock as his joke filters through my brain. “Oh my God! You just told a dirty joke about Santa.”
He shrugs and says, “I’m a guy. We know a million dirty jokes. Girls have makeup and hair stuff. We have dirty jokes.”
“Naked women and dirty jokes. I’m finding out all sorts of things about you today.”
“You had to know I probably liked both of those things. I am a guy, you know.”
Shaking my head, I say, “To be honest, I don’t think I knew anything about you before today, Matthias. Well, other than you never looked happy whenever I was around.”
He winces and then gently pushes me back down onto the bed. Easing his body on top of mine, he looks down into my eyes and quietly says, “I was never unhappy when you were around, Ava. No matter what I looked like, I wasn’t unhappy.”
That’s the second time today he’s mentioned that how he’s always acted around me was just that—all an act. But why?
“Oh. So you were just pretending to hate me more than all the evil in the world?” I ask as he leans down to kiss me.
Matthias nods and whispers against my lips, “Yes.”
I press a finger against his mouth to stop him from kissing me and ask, “So you wanted to be like this the whole time?”
He sucks my finger between his lips and flicks his tongue against it before nodding his answer. My eyes flutter closed at the sensations he’s creating inside me as an ache forms between my legs at the thought that he might use that tongue somewhere else on my body.
With a final tug, he sucks hard on my finger and then lets it slide out of his mouth. “No falling asleep on me. We have all night for that.”
I look up at him and shake my head. “I wasn’t falling asleep. I’m not even tired, to be honest.”
“Good. After that nap I took, I’m not either.”
“So what are we going to do? I bet we can find a good mystery show on TV,” I say with a smile, hoping to God he doesn’t answer that he’d love to watch some TV and nothing else.
“I had something else in mind. I think you do too, so no TV for us tonight.”
As he finishes speaking, he tilts his hips up and presses his cock between my legs. I like where he’s going with this.
