When we get home, Kandace heads straight for the kitchen. I follow her. Kandace starts to brew some coffee. Patiently, I wait for her to talk. I sit down at our little, oval table.

Once the coffee is finished, she pours herself a cup and then one for me. She sets the cup in front of me before she sits.

She sighs, “I suck.”

Confused, I say, “You know damn well, you don’t suck.”

She blurts out, “I cheated last night.”

“Okay…”

“I don’t cheat.”

“Okay! What happened?”

Kandace sighs, “I knew you were going to do your thing last night. I figured I would make the most of it and just drink and chat with Todd.”

“And…?”

“We were having a lot of fun just chatting. When it was getting time to crash, I was going to fall asleep on the couch. Unfortunately, the couch was occupied. Todd asked if I was cool to sleep in his room. He even stated he would sleep on the floor, and I could have the bed. I thought that was ridiculous. We are adults who can share a bed and not do anything.”

“Okay but something happened?”

Again, she sighs, “Yes. We were talking and laughing while lying in bed. We were connecting. The next thing I knew, the flirting got heavier, and we were all over each other.”

“You connected with someone else and acted on your desires. There is nothing wrong with that. It happens. When an opportunity arises to explore, you take it.”

“This is where you and I are totally different. That’s not how I am. I cheated. That is morally wrong.”

“It’s not like you are in love with Mack.”

“I know you don’t like Mack. He’s a good guy when his front isn’t up. He treats me decently.”

“Do you see yourself spending the rest of your life with him?”

“No.”

“So, he is Mr. Right Now. Maybe it’s time for him to be Mr. No Longer.”

“Yeah, I’m seeing that. There was no hesitation with Todd. We were drunk but knew what we were doing. I’m a whore.”

I smirk, “No, you are not. You gave into someone you had interest in. There is nothing wrong with that.”

“You keep saying that.”

“I know our upbringings are polar opposites. The way I look at commitment and sex is not the same as you. However, I am seeing it this way; you gave in because you knew Mack wasn’t the guy for you. Unfortunately, you didn’t have the opportunity to break it off before it happened. Now that it has happened, you know your next steps.”

The tears start to fall from her eyes. She wipes them away and cries, “I know, but it still sucks.”

“Yeah, it does.” I pause and then jokingly ask, “How was Todd then?”

A smile appears upon her face, and she states, “Girl, it was the best damn sex I have ever had. Holy shit.”

I laugh, “Like how good?”

“Like multiple orgasms.”

“Really?”
