“I’m sorry, Breck.I’m just a grump in the morning. You know that.”

Breckin smiled.“You’re forgiven. Now, do you want me to tell you my news?”

“You’re pregnant.”

“Nope.”

“You’re getting married.”

“Nope.”

“Kelda and Burt eloped.”

Breckin wrinkled her nose.“Ew.Nope.You’re awful.Give up?”

CC shrugged her shoulders.“Why not?”

“Okay, so remember how you had all these big plans to renovate the empty building next to the shop?”

CC rolled her eyes.“Of course I do.It was the project that failed miserably.”

CC had purchased the building from Wyatt’s aunt, a realtor, a few years ago.She had every intention of creating a twenty-four hour gym for the residents of Parker to access whenever they wanted. So far, she’d managed to do one thing—nothing.

She had tried to enlist the help of Wyatt after he and Annie came back from their honeymoon but they had gotten busy renovating Sophie’s Haven.Because CC lacked the skills to do the work herself and the funding to pay someone else to help, her gym ideas had fallen by the wayside. She wished she had never bought the building but what was done was done.

“Well, I came up with an idea to raise money to fix it.”

“Okay.I’m almost afraid to ask you how you plan on doing it.”There was no telling what her friend came up with in that crazy head of hers.

“I decided to hold an auction.”Breckin didn’t say anything else.Instead, she sat on CC’s bed, a huge smile on her face.

“There are tons of auctions in the world, Breck. You gotta be more specific.Cake?House?Livestock?”

Her friend rolled her eyes.“You have no imagination. No to all of the above.”

“Then what?We’ve established I’m a horrible guesser.”

“An eligible bachelor auction!”

It was CC’s turn to stare at her friend.“Come again?”

“A bachelor auction.Women can bid to win a date with the man of her choice. All the proceeds go to helping you get your gym and the people of Parker a place to work out.It might even get you a date with a man who isn’t gay.”

“Right…but it might also get me a date with a man who needs a pacemaker…or dentures…or cataract surgery.Comeon,Breck.It’s not like there are men in this town who can be deemed eligible that are under the age of fifty.”

“Yes, there are.And there arelotsof womenoverthe age of fifty who are looking for a man, especially since Kelda and Burt have been shacking up.I’ve heard illegal Viagra sales have gone through the roof.”

CC decided to ignore the Viagra comment. She didn’t want those images in her head.“Really?Name them.”

“Max’s son, Walter, for starters.”

“Oh, lordy!Don’t you remember the mistake I made when I first tried to work on the gym?I saw his ass crack more than I saw his actual face!”

“Which meant he was working hard instead of slacking and just shooting the breeze with the boss!”

CC rolled her eyes. Her friend was out of her mind if she thought people were going to bid on Walter Wilson.

“Who else?”
