“Oh?” she asked softly. “I bet you hear all sorts of things about the resort.”

“Yeah.” He glanced down at her lips as she talked and instantly wished he hadn’t. Now it was going to take hours for him to stop thinking about how lush they were. How plump they were. How much he wanted to feel them under his own. He couldn’t get them out of his mind as she chatted about… something.

“Good,” she said suddenly, getting his attention as she sat up straight. “Then it’s settled,” she said with a nod.

“What?” He cleared his mind and straightened himself. “What’s settled?”

She frowned at him. “You and me,” she said, as if that explained everything. His mind was still in the gutter. Thinking about kissing her.

“Are…?” he asked, hoping that she’d invite him somewhere private and let him taste her.

“Going to meet first thing in the morning to discuss what you’ve heard,” she explained, looking slightly annoyed.

“Right,” he sighed and instantly felt deflated.

CHAPTERTHREE

Jade was enjoying messing with Wyatt. Of course she’d known the moment he’d stopped paying attention to her. He had that look in his eyes that all men got when they started daydreaming about sex.

She’d felt the instant pull of attraction when she’d seen him at the pool. It practically caused the hot air to sizzle around them.

She didn’t mind his lack of attention now, not really, since she’d had an entire half hour to admire him as he worked. And there had been lots of daydreams clouding her mind. Enough that she was thinking about taking a dip in the pool to cool off when she returned upstairs.

She hadn’t been lying. The man could move. He flipped bottles, tossed the shaker in the air and easily caught it, and had even lined up shot glasses and poured more than a dozen shots for a large party with so much flair, everyone stopped to watch the show. The man certainly knew what he was doing, and even more to the point, looked damn sexy while he was doing it too.

He’d flirted with the women—no doubt to get bigger tips—and easily moved on to flirt with the next in line.

She didn’t want to spend more time with him because of that attraction. She really was interested in what he had heard about the resort. If there were things she could fix around the place, she wanted to know. Wyatt was correct in one area—bartenders tended to hear and see more than most other employees.

“So, here’s the thing,” Wyatt started as she took another sip of the wine. “I’m not really a morning person.”

She glanced around and, upon realizing it was past midnight, nodded.

“Okay, mid-morning?” she asked. “Say, ten? Before you open up here.”

He nodded. “Your office?”

She thought about what was on her schedule for the morning and remembered that she was supposed to be inspecting the kitchen area with Leon, the head chef, first thing in the morning and didn’t know how long the task would take.

“How about we meet downstairs in the kitchens? We can chat while we look over the bar inventory?” she suggested.

“Fair enough. I’ve been meaning to talk to your father, now you, about a few things anyway,” he replied. “You’re in the Sunset Suite?” he asked. “I’ve heard about it.”

“You have?” She frowned slightly.

“Sure, all of the employees talk about how your family members are the only ones allowed to stay in it.”

She frowned even more. “It’s home,” she told him simply. “Even if we aren’t here. Would you want someone sleeping in your bed while you’re gone?”

He was silent for a moment. “No, I suppose not. I guess employees don’t look at it that way. After all, this is a resort. Why did your parents never purchase a place off the property?”

“My father likes to be close to his work. So do I.” She felt tired suddenly from all the excitement on her first official day.

“Another glass?” he asked.

She looked down at the glass she held and realized the wine was all gone. No wonder she was tired. She wanted another glass but knew better than to let any of the employees see her drunk. Two glasses usually did the trick. Especially when she’d skipped dinner. She’d actually come downstairs with the intention of getting food, but then she’d remembered she’d told Wyatt that she wanted to see how he handled the bar. And she’d promised Josie all the details about him as well.

Her best friend seemed very interested in the sexy man she was going to be working side by side with. Jade didn’t want to admit how her conversation with her best friend had sparked some jealousy at the thought of the two of them working together every day.
