Page 115 of Blood that Burns
My body is on fire, and I savor the burn.
“More. Please,” I beg, chasing the orgasm building in my core. “Harder.”
He crashes into me relentlessly, giving me everything I’m begging for.
“I... can’t.” Law’s pinched features tell me he’s close too.
“I’m with you. Don’t stop, Law.”
He groans, somehow managing to pick up his pace into a punishing rhythm that’s pure ecstasy.
Three more pumps, and he’s falling over the edge, shouting out his orgasm with me.
He collapses onto me, rolling us so that I’m on his chest. We stay like this for several minutes, our breathing labored.
“That was...”
“Yeah,” I say, dumbly, unable to form coherent sentences.
Nothing could ever compare tothat.Because it was us. Law is my person, has been for years, but what we just shared cemented a new dawn for us. The questions and issues surrounding this place can’t touch us here. Nobody else exists but the two of us right now.
“Can we do that again?”
“We can do that all night,” Law says, leaning up to kiss my cheek. “But I need a moment.”
I roll off of him, falling to my back next to him, working on slowing my racing heart. So many thoughts filter through my mind. Places I want to go with him. Things I want to do.
He chuckles from beside me. “We have plenty of time to do all of that.”
Cold dread infiltrates my body, ruining what was just a perfect moment.
We don’t have all the time in the world. Not like Marina and Julian.
“Maggie,” Law warns. “Don’t go there. Not right now.”
I turn to my side, looking at his profile.
Law relents with a sigh. “Why not? It’s a conversation we were bound to have sooner rather than later.”
“We might not have later, Law. I’m mortal. What if I die?”
“Don’t—”
“Stop telling me what to do.” I sit up, pulling a pillow to my chest to cover my naked body.
I’m too raw. Too exposed.
Law sits up too, pulling me and the pillow toward him.
“I know why you want to complete the bond, but can you hear me out?”
I frown but remain quiet. If he wants to talk, I’ll let him talk.
“There is still so much we don’t know about the effects. Marina was just turned, and every day she seems to have something new arise.” His eyes pierce mine. “Can’t we just give it some time to see what happens? I don’t want you rushing into something we don’t understand.”
His words catch me off guard. I hadn’t considered that Marina’s transformation isn’t complete. Could things go wrong? Could she be in trouble?
“Shante isn’t concerned that something bad is going to happen to Marina, right?”
