“You know what I mean.”
I smiled and nodded. “I do know, and yeah. As long as I can dive behind the counter if Cash shows up, I’m good.”
Grace shook her head and climbed out of the car, followed by me.
The moment we walked in, Izzy lit up and waved. Abby spun around to greet us, but she was already talking to my grandma.
“Hey, Mom,” Izzy said. “Craving the pumpkin one again?”
Grace laughed and put her hand on her barely-there belly and laughed. “I am, and I think I need a slice of pumpkin brownie.”
I stared at her. “What the heck is a pumpkin brownie?”
Izzy groaned. “Oh, it’s so good. It’s like pumpkin bread with brownie batter swirled through the middle, sprinkled with nuts.”
“I’ll have that too, and I’ll try your mom’s drink.”
“Coming up.” Izzy wandered to make the drinks as Grandma Millie wandered over with a cup of tea.
“It’s all set.” My grandma sat down.
“What’s all set?”
“The party on the thirtieth.”
I stared at her blankly.
“You know, the one at the apple orchard? Cash’s parents?” she prompted.
I’d been so wrapped up in my drama that I’d completely forgotten that there was a get-together at the end of the month.
“You’re coming, right?” Grace smiled as her daughter brought over all of the food and drinks.
“We’ll see. I don’t want it to be weird. It’s only a couple of weeks away.”
“It will only be weird if you make it weird,” Izzy told me with raised brows.
“I’ll take that into consideration. Thanks.”
She spun on her heels, and Grandma Millie grinned. “She’s a smart one.”
“Takes after her aunt,” I said, sipping my drink.
It felt like someone had bottled up every amazing thing about fall and shoved it into this drink. I was addicted. Another reason to stay in Buttercup Lake.
I’d slowly started to come to the conclusion that even if Cash didn’t want to accept my apology or try again, I still wanted to stay here. My family was here, and it was growing. I was excited to see Nina, and I was thrilled beyond words about a tiny new nephew or niece. I saw my future here.
And if it wasn’t with Cash, I’d have to learn to deal with it. Granted, seeing him wander around town when he started to date again would be rough.
Maybe torturous, but I’d whip out my therapy skills and think about how lucky I was to have had him for as brief as it might have been.
Exactly.
I was a professional.
And on that note, I was tired of everything about me all day. “When’s Jackson Jr. coming back from tour?”
Grace beamed at the mere mention of her fiancé. “Four days and six hours, not that I’m counting.”
