Grandma Millie chuckled. “Of course not.”
“I’m so happy you reconnected with him, Grace. It’s like the stars aligned.”
Grace laughed. “With the help of the Sunshine Breakfast Club.”
“Oh, brother,” I groaned.
“It’s true.”
Grandma Millie looked at me and took a sip of her tea. “Which is another reason you and Cash need to sort this out. We have a nearly perfect record, and you two are wreaking havoc.”
“What about Daisy and Cash? That didn’t work out,” I pointed out.
Or at least I hoped it hadn’t worked out.
Grandma Millie shook her head. “Doesn’t count. Once we get Daisy matched up again, we can keep our score intact.”
My brows rose. “Your score? Wow. And that’s where Hunter comes in?”
Grandma Millie drew in a sharp breath. “Cash told you.”
I shrugged.
A text from Cash flashed on my phone, and my stomach flipped.
“What?” My sister looked at me funny. “Why do you look so startled?”
“Cash is headed to the airport. He’s flying to North Carolina to see me.” I scooted from the chair and stood. “Can I have your keys?”
“Absolutely.” She handed me the huge set, and I didn’t even want to know why she had like thirty keys attached to a golf ball for a key chain. “Don’t mind stranding us here. We’ll be fine.”
I leaned in and gave her a hug before dashing out the door, but for some odd reason, I felt like I needed to make a stop first. I just hoped it wouldn’t make me too late.
Chapter Thirty-Six
Cash
I didn’t know why I bothered sending Maya the text that I was coming. She hadn’t responded to any of them so far.
But I wasn’t going to let that keep me down.
I shook my head and scooped Chewie into my arms. “Now, you be good for my sister. Evie has a good heart.”
The moment I’d managed to book my flight, I’d stuffed everything into a duffle bag, and Evie volunteered to stay at my house and watch Chewie.
The flight had two layovers to get me to Charlotte, and I wouldn’t technically be arriving until tomorrow afternoon, but at least I’d be there.
My sister came into the entryway to give me a hug and take Chewie from me.
“Just put the naysayers out of your head and go do what you’ve got to do.” She smiled. “I’d be flattered if a guy jumped on a plane for me.”
I laughed. “Thanks.”
“But remember, play it cool. Make her the center of your conversation.”
I nodded. “I got it, but thanks. I’m going to miss my flight if I don’t leave now.”
Evie nodded and let out a deep breath, glancing at her phone. “Oh, and if the timing works out right, maybe you can smuggle me back some North Carolina-style BBQ.”
