There was something so raw, so Maya with what was happening between us.

Maya’s fingers twisted through my hair as her tongue danced with mine, feeling a rhythm of only our making.

Her breathing changed. I slid one hand down her belly, resting it on her thighs. I could feel the warmth between her legs as my breath caught in my throat. She pulled away slightly, her eyes fluttering open as she licked her lips.

She grabbed my hand and put it on her chest. “My heart is beating so fast.”

I smiled, running my other hand along her hairline as her sultry gaze stayed locked on mine.

She gently nipped my bottom lip, beckoning me for more, when my phone rang. I silenced it and kissed her again.

But my phone started again.

And then it buzzed several texts.

She pressed her lips together and let out a sigh as our kiss came to an end.

“Sounds important.”

“Can’t imagine it is.”

I stepped back, feeling my heart still pounding, when I glanced down at the text.

It was from Nate.

The guy is at Buttercup Lake Lodge. Do what you will with that info.

I looked up at Maya. Her shoulders slumped. “What’s up? Everything okay?”

I glanced back down at my phone and debated whether to tell her. I shoved my phone into my back pocket and let out a deep breath.

“Everything’s fine. I just have something I need to take care of.”

“One of the rentals?”

I didn’t answer. I couldn’t lie to her.

So I said nothing and swept another kiss across her lips.

“Well, you’re going to have to get me down from here, or I might break my other foot.”

I chuckled, feeling her in my arms as she slid down to the floor. I moved her scooter back to her and grinned.

“Don’t do anything I wouldn’t.”

“That doesn’t really tell me much.” She laughed and scooted her way to the family room. “It’s officially time for some reality television. Go forth, good man. I’ll see you when you get back.”

I hated lying to her, but I wasn’t really saying anything one way or another. I wiped my palm over my mouth and cleared my throat.

“Maybe we can pick up where we left off?”

She looked over at me and smirked. “If you’re lucky.”

By the time I got to my Jeep, I was fired up and ready to go. Maya’s ex couldn’t keep haunting her like this, and maybe it was time he had a talk with someone his own size rather than a barely five-foot female.

Grateful my parents were back in town, I dialed my dad as I backed out of the drive.

“Yello, Son.” He laughed.
