Cash and Hunter took off toward the house, and Brielle watched me. “You guys are sweet together.”

I wasn’t sure if that was a compliment coming from her, so I just nodded. “Thanks.”

“It must be nice living somewhere so...”

My brow arched. “I don’t live here. I live in North Carolina. I’m only summering out here.”

Brielle slid her sunglasses off. “Oh?”

I nodded. “I own a business, but I can work remotely.”

“I never would have guessed.”

I laughed. “Really. Was it the flannel? The boot? Or the dog?”

She narrowed her eyes and didn’t answer as she sucked the tip of her sunglasses.

I’d never been happier to see Cash and Hunter emerge with a cooler full of food and a laundry basket filled with snacks.

“First stop needs to be Starbucks,” Brielle announced, chuckling.

Hunter and Cash traded a look while I tried to keep in my laugh.

“There’s no Starbucks around here. But we have a great coffee house we can stop at before we leave.”

She shuddered.

“It’s way better than Starbucks or Dunkin’, in my opinion,” I offered.

“It will have to do.” She sighed as if the world had just dumped all of its painful woes on her.

Cash grimaced as he unplugged the extension cord from the trailer. “Fridge is nice and cold. Hunter can put everything into the fridge, and I’ll get us hitched up.”

Brielle turned around and sat back in the car they’d arrived in.

I picked up Chewie and followed Cash to his pickup and climbed in.

Cash smiled at me and turned on the truck. “Had enough of Bougee Brielle?”

“It’s going to be a hoot this weekend. That’s for sure.”

Chapter Twenty-Four

Cash

We pulled up to the campsite, and I backed into the slot as Hunter waited in his car with Brielle.

“Do you think she liked the latte she got back at Buttercup Java?” Maya asked.

I shook my head, checking the backup camera and sticking my head out the window to get it right the first time. “I would be stunned if she did.”

Once I put the trailer on the pad and turned off the truck, I looked over at her and smiled. “It just reminds me of how lucky I am that we met.”

Maya smiled, watching Hunter park his car on the patch of gravel in front of our campsite.

“Here’s to an exciting camping trip,” she quipped.

“Hopefully, not too exciting.” I reached over and squeezed her hand. “We’ll try to sneak away as much as possible.”
