“Where?” I swear on my mother’s grave, if he says he’s taking me to bed I’m going to stab him.

He all but dragged me through the kitchen. “Unless you have your birth certificate with you, I need to call a guy and have one made. Then I’m going to the courthouse. Louisiana has a waiting period before we can tie the knot.”

I stopped walking. “You’re going alone?”

“Only one of us needs to be present to get the license.”

“How do you know so much about the laws?”

“I’m an attorney…and I might have looked it up.” His ears turned red again. Marco Marchionni was embarrassed.

If I didn’t know better, I would have sworn he was excited about our upcoming wedding. The funny thing was, I had butterflies. Fake or not, I was about to marry the man I loved. “We should finish the rules first.”

He groaned. “My rule is we have no freaking rules.”

Laughing, I looped my arm with his. “Fine. Let’s go call a guy about a thing and head to the courthouse like Bonny and Claud.”

“Clyde. It’s Bonnie and Clyde, and we should come up with another outlaw couple. One that didn’t die young.”

I tapped my lips. “Velma and Louie?”

“Thelma and Louise died at the end of the movie.” He gave me side-eye.

“I’ve never seen it.”

“I’ll add that to the list of things you’ve never done, but are going to do as soon as we’re married.” Marco turned, swept me off my feet, and carried me toward the stairs.

“Hey! Put me down.” I pretended to struggle, but I enjoyed goofing around with him. Even if temporarily being in his arms would permanently break my heart. “What else is on this list?”

“You’ll have to wait until we’re married to find out.” He used his bedroom voice, the one that told me he was thinking about sex again.

“What was that you said about waiting for the perfect moment?” Nuzzling into his neck, I whispered, “Why put off until tomorrow when you can do me right now?”

Marco chuckled. “One day, I’m going to sit you down and teach you every American idiom I know.”

I smiled against his warm skin. “I messed that one up on purpose.”
