“You’re fucking staring.”

Leo’s voice is loud in my ear, and that still doesn’t have me taking my eyes off Isabella, his sister.

The two of us are currently in the school courtyard eating our lunch, all the while Isabella is about fifty feet away sitting with her friends.

She looks beautiful today. Her dark hair is pulled back in a braid, with a few pieces of hair falling around her face. She looks innocent and everything that a guy dreams of.

Everything that I dream of when I shouldn’t.

I don't even care that her brother caught me staring, that’s how enthralled I am by this girl.

“Your sister is beautiful.” I finally take my eyes off the beauty in front of me and give Leo a smirk.

“Yeah, and you aren’t allowed to touch her.” He shoves me, almost pushing me off my seat, a smirk of his own playing on his face.

The bastard reminds me every chance he gets that his sister is off limits, but the both of us know that I would be a good choice for her. He’s just too afraid to admit it, he will though, it will just take time.

Leo knows I would treat her the way she deserves and give her everything her heart desires. If I had the chance to give her the world, I would.

Never thought that at eighteen I would be having that thought process but even from a young age, I knew that Isabella Morales was special. Even with the two-year age difference.

“Better me than that asshole over there.” The words escape through my teeth as I see one of the kids whose daddy probably owns half of Texas, approach Isabella and her friends.

The fuckwad looks like he just jumped out of a school brochure.

I’m sick of these preppy schoolboys that don’t have to work for anything that they are given. The day I graduate and leave this preppy fucked up world cannot come soon enough.

Whatever compelled my parents to send me to a school full of rich pricks that just flaunt their money is beyond me. I would have been perfectly fine going to any public school that the state of Texas had to offer. But I guess when you work with Ronaldo Morales, you take him up on his offer to send your only son to a high society school for extra protection. Like I can’t take care of myself.

“I swear, all the threats in the world don’t keep these assholes away from her.” To anyone but me, Leo is one scary motherfucker, everyone at this ridiculous school knows not to mess with him.

When it comes to his sister, well that’s a whole different story.

“Maybe show them Ronaldo’s dungeon and then maybe they won’t even think about talking to her.”

It’s supposed to be a joke, but both of us know that everything concerning his father’s “dungeon” is true.

You see, Leo and Isabella have a famous father of sorts. Famous in the sense that any mention of his name makes people that live in these parts of Texas, fearful.

Ronaldo Morales is by far the most dangerous man that you can come across. Leo and I have known for a few years now just how dangerous. We may be only eighteen, but we weren’t shielded from this world, we know exactly the type of business Leo’s father runs.

We know enough that the two of us are weeks away from partaking in said business. The last two years I’ve learned more and more about what our fathers do and have been trained to be just like them. Leo being molded into the man his father wants him to become a few years before me.

Come graduation, we will officially be involved in everything they are.

Once we walk across the stage at gradation, Leo and I will be a part of the Muertos cartel. By force of our fathers and a partial decision from us both. No way was I going to let my one and only friend, someone who is like a brother, go through this life without me. He dies, I die right next to him.

Leo grunts, taking my mind away from the morbid path it was heading. “I do that, they talk and we will have a lot more than a few preppy assholes to deal with.”

He’s got a point there.

If anyone gets a wind of what our families are involved in, we will be seeing federal agents left and right.

“Like I said a few seconds ago, better me than those fuckers.” I throw him a smirk, again I get shoved and my friend just shakes his head.

“Maybe one day you’ll get my blessing. Maybe. If you prove yourself.”

“I’ll prove myself and I’ll be standing there next to her, silently telling you I told you so.” The grin on my face grows more when Leo just gives me a shake of his head.
