Page 15 of Powerful Deception
Evelyn directs me though the second door that is being guarded by two very intimidating men. I swear they both snarl at me as we walk by.
They calm down when after Evelyn tells them what I’m here for and they give me a quick pat down.
“Are you the manager of the club?” I ask her as we walk through yet another hallway that looks as if it's covered in velvet.
“No, I work for the owner.”
“Oh, okay.” If I wasn’t freaking out about this already, I’m sure as hell am now. This woman works for Rosetti and for all I know she knows who I am and is planning to kill me just like they did my dad.
I really didn’t think this whole thing through.
“You have nothing to worry about. I’m sure you will do fine, it’s just a simple interview.” She throws back when we reach the end of the second hallway.
Another door opens and we finally walk into the club.
Online it said that this club was the epitome of class and opulence but seeing it in person is a whole different experience.
It’s dark, but not dark enough to not see all the leather, the reds and the crystals. If I didn’t know this club was owned by Dante Rosetti, I would find the place breathtaking.
I think this is the one strip club that I wouldn't mind dancing in. There is no doubt in my mind that the girls that dance here make thousands each and every night.
“A simple interview.” I whisper mostly to myself.
An interview with someone that most of the city of Chicago fears, doesn’t scream out ‘simple’.
Evelyn continues to guide me through the main portion of the club, and I finally notice that there is nobody here. That seems a little odd given that it’s a Friday.
“Is the club closed?” I ask Evelyn as she guides me through yet another hallway.
“It doesn’t open until ten this evening.” Evelyn says before she opens a door that leads to a room that does not match the rest of the place.
It looks like a living room, covered in all white and grays
The vast contrast of this room has me feeling more nervous than walking past the reds and leathers.
I look over at Evelyn and she just gives me a smile.
“Wait here, let me see if he’s finished with the last interview before I bring you in.” She excuses herself and heads to a dark wooden door on the opposite wall. She knocks before stepping in and shutting the door behind her.
Taking a deep breath, I take a seat on one of the cream-colored couches and try to relax as best as I can.
I really should have listened to Cora when she told me to stay away from this place. I have no idea what I have gotten myself into.
Never in my life have I heard of a strip club having auditions like this. I always heard that they were on stage and that you had to show whoever was hiring what you can contribute. I’ve heard that you have to show every inch of your body.
But given the way Evelyn is dressed, this interview must be way more sophisticated. This isn’t any normal strip club, it’s for the elite and the powerful.
Fuck, I think I’m going to puke.
The door opens and Evelyn comes out with a bright smile.
“Okay, he is ready for you.” She says a little too brightly for the situation.
I give her a nod and stand up from my seat, smoothing down my dress in the process.
“Remember it’s just a simple interview. You have nothing to worry about, you will do great.”
The way my heart is beating, I have everything to worry about.
