Page 37 of Powerful Deception
“Do you want me to help you get dressed today, Alessandra?” Arianna asks.
The room stands still for a moment and I’m about to tell her that I will dress my daughter when Alessandra nods.
She nods and Arianna’s face transforms into another bright smile, while I have to take a second to figure out what the fuck just happened.
Alessandra doesn’t let anyone but me dress her in the mornings, but she is letting this complete stranger do it.
What the fuck?
Without hesitation, my daughter goes to Arianna’s outstretched arms and she starts getting ready for her day.
When the two of them are in the bathroom brushing their teeth, I turn to Evelyn who is smirking at me from the doorway.
I can hear the ‘I told you so’ radiating from her body from where I stand.
“I don’t pay you to stand around and smirk at me.” I tell her which just earns me another smirk before handing me my son and leaving to do whatever she does this early in the morning.
Breath. Relax. You know you would be lost without Evelyn.
Sure, but the woman sure knows how to get on my goddamn nerves.
Footsteps take my attention away from Evelyn and when I turn to I see Alessandra and Arianna come back into the room. My little girl has her hair done in two pigtails and already in her pre-school uniform.
“Is it okay if I take her to school?” Arianna asks, a nervousness to her tone.
For the first time since the club, I get a good look at the woman in front of me.
Her dark hair goes just past her shoulder and her face has minimal to little make up. The way she is dressed ages her and doesn’t make her look like the twenty-four-year-old that I know she is.
She’s young and I will admit beautiful and if she wasn’t the new nanny or if I didn’t know who her father was, I would suggest something else entirely. Like a proposition that will let me spend a large amount of time between her thighs, because fuck even in the clothes she’s wearing, the curves she has are mouthwatering.
It’s a minute into the perusing of Arianna, I remember that she asked me a question.
Thankfully, she is looking over at Angel who is giggling in my arms, and she didn’t notice that I was ogling her or my hesitation in answering her question.
“I’ll take her.” I say a little too roughly and she takes notice.
So much so that she puts even more distance between us, and her eyes grow a bit wider.
“I’m sorry,” She stutters out. “I just offered because Evelyn stated that was one of the jobs I had to do. I apologize if I interpreted it wrong.”
I should feel bad.
I should feel bad that I scared the woman that is trying to make things easier on me by offering to take Alessandra to school, but I don’t.
At least not a big part of me doesn’t.
She’s still a stranger. She is still here for a reason and until I find what that reason is, I won’t trust her. Not fully anyway, especially when it comes to my children.
“It is a part of your job, but I don’t trust you.” I tell her, keeping it truthful. Placing Angel on the floor, I take a step closer to her. A look of fear coming through her eyes.
“I haven’t trusted you from the second you stepped foot into my club. You may be the nanny, but you are here for a reason. A reason that will not be hidden for very long. I will find out, and when I do, you will pay for every one of your actions.”
I pull back and I swear I see her shiver at my words.
Without another word, I grab Alessandra’s bag and her hand and walk out of the room.
Arianna is scared and she should be.
