“I thought I understood, too.” I fingered his collar. “But now I know I got it wrong. I’m still crazy about you, Rodrigo.”

His gaze pressed into mine, and a long silence stretched out. My heart dropped.

Oh, no. Should I not have said anything? What if he’s already moved on?

“Georgia.” He paused. Cupped my face. “I never stopped being crazy about you.”

I started to gasp from happiness, but his lips pressed against mine, stealing all sound. Stealing all hesitation and worry.

As his mouth moved against mine, the courage between us built up. The faith. The undeniable desire.

Breaking the kiss, he pressed his forehead against mine. “I don’t have the words right now.”

“It’s okay.” I grinned. “You don’t need to have any words. How about you just kiss me again?”

He did exactly that.

CHAPTER18

RODRIGO

Pausing in front of the kitchen mirror, I checked my hair.

“What are you doing?” Sebastián asked from the island, where he sat eating cereal.

“I’m…” I dropped my hand. “Nothing.”

“You keep looking in the mirror. A lot.” He shoveled another spoonful of cereal in his mouth and went back to watching the cartoon on his tablet.

Had I been?

“A man should take pride in his appearance.” Clearing my throat, I crossed to the coffee pot. As I poured myself a cup, I kept my back turned to him so he wouldn’t see my red face.

“Good morning,” the most musical voice in the world said.

My heart did a backflip, and I nearly dropped my coffee. Turning around, I caught sight of Georgia right as she walked into the room.

Just like every day, today she was another unique version of perfect. Her hair was pulled up into a ponytail, and she wore a pair of high-waisted navy slacks and a white blouse. Her red heels clicked against the floor, and at the sight of her full lips curling into a smile I nearly lost it.

“Good morning,” I somehow managed to get out. “How did you sleep?”

“Well.” She joined me at the counter, where she poured herself a cup of coffee.

“Good.” My gaze lingered on her lips. Noticing, she winked.

Heat spread through me, and I suddenly couldn’t remember how to function. Leaning against the counter, I took a sip of my coffee—and failed miserably. The hot liquid splashed right down my shirt.

Holding back a curse, I reached for a towel. Georgia was already there, though, dabbing at the stain, her smile somehow even bigger.

“Thank you,” I mumbled, glancing at Sebastián. He was still engrossed in his cartoon, though. Georgia and I might not have even existed to him anymore.

“You’re welcome.” She put the towel down. “Isn’t it time to get to school?”

“I have eight more minutes.” Sebastián spared the quickest glance up from his screen.

“He has eight more minutes,” I explained.

Georgia ruffled his hair. “That’s just enough time for me to eat some breakfast, I guess… and for your father to change his shirt.”
