She frowned. “Wait. Why are you wearing a T-shirt, Rodrigo? You’re not dressed for work yet?”

“Actually, I’m taking the day off.”

“Oh.” Disappointment flashed in her eyes. She would miss me at work, I realized.

And I would miss her, too. Which is why I wasn’t skipping the office all on my own.

“And you’re taking the day off as well,” I told her.

She gave me a funny look. “What do you mean?” she slowly asked. “Why?”

“Because it is a beautiful day and we only live once.”

Georgia laughed, the sound the sweetest music. “I have more questions, but I suppose I shouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth.”

“What does that mean?” Finally, something had drawn Sebastián away from his cartoon.

“It means don’t question it when something good happens to you,” I said, catching Georgia’s eye.

A pretty pink spread across her cheeks. Ducking her face, she bit into a smile.

“Am I taking the day off too?” Sebastián asked.

“No,” I said. “You’re still going to school.”

“Aww.” He pouted. “Why not?”

“Because today is for adults. We will take another day soon for all of us to have fun.”

“And Melba?”

“Yes, we can wait until Melba gets back.”

“I want to go to the beach,” he said, already staring at his cartoon again.

Georgia sidled closer to me. “So what is your plan for the day?”

“It’s a secret.”

“A secret, huh?” She lifted her chin. Twisted her lips. “Okay. I can get down with that.”

My gaze dropped to her feet. “I do suggest you change into something more comfortable, though. Those heels look amazing on you, but…”

“Noted.” She stepped away, headed for the door, and I had to hold back a primal groan.

It was painful having her so close and not being able to touch her, but Sebastián didn’t know about our relationship and we needed to keep everything normal around him.

Come to think about it, I didn’t really know about this relationship. It hadn’t even been a full day since Georgia and I kissed in the field, and even though we’d been all over each other since then (though only in private), we hadn’t talked about this new situation.

I was trying my best not to get ahead of myself, but it was hard. Now that I had Georgia back in my life, the last eleven years looked like a desert. I had been surviving my way through them, not thriving.

She had breathed new life into me. I couldn’t just let that go.

Still, if this were a fling to her, I wasn’t sure I could stand knowing that. Not yet anyway.

“You should change,” Sebastián said, pulling me out of my thoughts. “We have to leave in two minutes.”

“Right.” I took one last swig of coffee and clapped him on the back as I walked from the room.
