“Shit, you’re right! I didn’t think about it like that,” I sighed, running my hand down my face in irritation. How could I not think of that?
“Patch says he’s heard chatter that the Fire Dragons want Cross ousted. Word is that he is no leader, which is no surprise to any of us,” Shadow said, giving a little laugh.
“Well, shit, maybe his own brothers will get rid of him for us,” Viking smirked.
“I want to be the one to kill him for hurting what I cherish most in this world. For that, I want to watch him die,” Shadow snarled, his eyes going black.
I was with him on this. Mary and the baby could have been hurt, and by Cross’s order, that cannot stand.
“I feel the same. He put his slimy hands on my woman, and I want a piece of him too,” Vampire sneered, playing with his knife. Yeah, Nikki was taken by Cross himself and held hostage.
“I want ideas; we will have Church again on Wednesday evening to discuss this further, but for now, let’s get on with other business. Kickstand, you’re up.” Shadow pointed at him.
My mind wandered throughout the rest of the meeting. I wanted Brooke and Gael safe and free of Flex and the Fire Dragons. I wanted Brooke to be mine completely, and that meant I had to find Flex and kill him. I looked at Soldier, thinking it might be a good idea to have Mandy talk to Brooke about starting divorce paperwork. Mandy worked for a divorce attorney and could help.
I would have to talk to Soldier. He’s my brother, and I would back him with my life. But I didn’t respect him for what he did to Mandy; of course, she had no idea. And I know he loved her, and his “problems” stemmed from PTSD, and it wasn’t often he took care of his “problem,” but that was no excuse in my book. Instead of doing the shit he was doing, he should just be upfront with Mandy.
“Any other business.” I heard Shadow ask, bringing my attention back to the room as the gavel banged. “Adjourned.”
Shadow put a heavy hand on my shoulder. “You riding today?”
“Nah, I’m gonna hang back and spend time with Brooke and watch Gael.”
“I thought as much. Jane is watching Marilyn and Preston since Silver is still banged up and not riding today. He has to rest to be able to do the run to Florida this week. Mary needs the break, but it’s hard prying her away from the baby.”
“Yeah, well, Mary was made to be a mother; she had a great teacher,” I said; I had such wonderful memories of her mom.
“Just one of the reasons I love her. I’ll see you later,” Shadow said, thumping me on the back and walking away. I followed him out. I needed to grab Gael from Sophia so she could go on the run with Lord. Roe was spending the day with Silver.
I couldn’t wait to have Brooke on the back of my bike for a run. Maybe next week if she feels up to it. I liked the vision that played in my head of all the things I could do to her on my bike. Things I fantasized about doing but never had the right woman.
And she can call me daddy while we do it. I chuckled to myself at the thought and adjusted my cock at the image.
All in good time.
CHAPTER FOURTEEN
I CAN’T TAKEit anymore! It’s Friday, and I have been in this bed for five days. Granted, I have been getting up and moving around when Lenny was at work, but I haven’t left the room, and I’m going stir-crazy. Lenny has breakfast with me and dinner, and then we watch a movie or something until time for bed; usually, Lenny falls asleep beside me on the bed, staying in my room the whole night. It’s nice, and we’ve learned a lot about each other this way, but I’m over being confined to this room. I want to take care of Gael. I miss him, and I have so much to take care of, a place to live and a job.
Time to take matters into my own hands.
I took a shower and sifted through the clothes Sophia had been bringing me all week now that she knew my sizes. I found a pair of cut-off blue jean shorts and a blue tank top and wore a pair of white sneakers. Tildie had given me some makeup she said she didn’t use, and I set about covering the still-present bruising on my face. I was a pro at covering bruises, having done it for so many years. I even have tricks for making my lips look normal after being busted. Next, I put my long hair into a high ponytail.
I sighed at the image in the mirror, satisfied with my handiwork. It felt good not to look like roadkill. Now time to explore a bit. Lenny said he wouldn’t be back to the clubhouse until six, so I had an hour or so to look around. I was curious about The Devil’s House club, but I couldn’t find out much stuck in a room.
I walked into the hall, remembering I needed to go right to find the stairs to the area below. I stood at the top of the stairs looking down. This building must have been a warehouse at one time. It was huge and modern. I took the steps down to the lower lever that ended in a foyer-type room, and I could hear music and laughter coming from the bar area in the next room. I headed that way. I peeked into the bar where rock music played, and men and women were hanging out, talking, drinking, and playing pool.
I was surprised at how many old ladies were here with their men. This would have been a big no-no at the Fire Dragons clubhouse unless it was a special occasion which was rare. If I went to see Tildie, I had to stay out of the main area. One time I ran into Flex coming out of a room with one of the club women zipping his pants up. He just smiled and said, “If you’re good, I’ll do you next.” I gave him a fake smile and told him not to worry; I would be just fine without his dick. It had gotten me a slap, but I didn’t care. Flex would never own any part of me, including my fear.
I went further into the room, taking a stool at the bar. A prospect named Johnny was bartending. He looked to be in his early twenties, tall, with light brown hair, hazel eyes, and what looked to be naturally sun-kissed skin. He gave me a curious look and then looked around the room as if looking for someone before coming over. “Brooke, right?” he asked with an easy smile.
“That’s me,” I replied with a smile.
“Thought so; you and Tildie resemble each other. What can I get you?”
“Just a beer,” I answered cheerfully, trying to hide how uncomfortable I felt.
“Coming right up,” Johnny said, going to get my beer.
