I’m moving toward her, not wanting anyone to spout off. “What happened, baby?” I ask when I reach the door.
I thought she’d be scared, but there’s not an ounce of fear in her eyes. Instead, they're filled with steel and determination.
I pull her into my body, and we face the room so everyone can hear what has happened.
“I got a call from my cousin, Levi. He said my father is coming here. He didn’t know we were here; he was just calling to let me know.” She takes a steadying breath. “Levi said my father’s thirty minutes out.”
“Fuck,” Romero growls. “Hasn’t your family done e-fucking-nough? What the hell does he want now?”
I bristle at his tone and words. How fucking dare he? This isn’t on Destiny. She’s not done anything wrong.
“Denis, Danny, and Malcolm, I want you to take your wives and Holly to the safe room. Make sure they’re secured,” Makenna instructs them. “Destiny, please excuse us for a moment.”
Destiny nods, but she glances at me, her gaze carefully assessing me. She’s making sure I’m okay. I give her a wink, letting her know I’m fine. She gives me a lingering touch before she leaves the room.
“Romero.” Makenna’s voice is hard. “Holly is my niece, and I love her. What Carter orchestrated didn't just affect you, it affected every single person in my family. Because of him, they killed my father, and they shot my cousin, not to mention my fucking brother.”
The prick just stares at her, unblinking.
“You speak to Destiny the way you just did again, and Finn will not be the only one you’ll have a problem with. Do I make myself clear?” Makenna snaps. “She is not the enemy here.”
He continues to glare, his arms crossed over his chest. “How do we know she’s not setting us up? That her being here and her father coming is not a fucking ploy?”
A growl rumbles through my chest. I’m so fucking close to knocking this prick out.
“Right now, our main focus is having that asshole Carter turning up,” Dante says, and I don’t fail to notice he said our main focus. Does he believe the same as Romero?
I know Destiny has nothing to do with this shit, and I’ll be fucking damned if those bastards treat her like crap.
Makenna pulls out her phone and starts barking orders. She’s setting up a permitter around the house, ensuring no one can ambush us.
The door to the office opens and the men return. “The women are in the safe room,” Denis says. “Let’s get this shit over and done with.”
I agree, it’s time to get rid of James Carter. Not only for us, but for Destiny. I know the fucker isn’t going to leave her be. No, he’ll keep coming for her until he’s stopped.
Makenna and Dante’s men enter the office with weapons. They hand us all guns and knives. I go over my gun, making sure it’s clean and that I get used to handling it.
An alarm sounds, and everyone in the office tenses. They’re coming.
We step outside and see four SUVs pulling into the driveway. My entire body is humming with adrenaline and anger. I know Makenna and Dante’s men are scattered around the property, their guns drawn on the targets. Waiting. Ready to take the shot when needed.
The vehicles come to a stop, and fifteen men step out, including the arsehole in question. James Carter. He stands behind his men, letting them protect him.
Fuck. The women are inside the house. We need to ensure these bastards don’t breach our perimeters.
“Ah, I’m glad you’re here, Finn. It saves me another journey. Today, I take out the Gallagher’s once and for all,” he sneers. Over the past few months, he’s gotten older; his hair greyer; his weight heavier. He looks like a man close to the edge. Good.
I smirk. There’s no way I would ever show this fucker any weakness. “I find it funny, Carter, that you’re standing behind your men. You’re just showing them what a coward you are, just as we all know you to be.”
His face flushes with anger. “Coward?”
“You let your niece take the blame when you were the mastermind behind the death of Seamus Gallagher, along with the kidnapping of my wife,” Romero growls. He’s finally got the man in his sights, and I’ll be fucking damned if I let him take the shot. Yes, James gave the order for Holly to be taken, but the bastard killed my father.
“You took my whores,” James growls in Makenna’s direction. “You took my business. You’ll pay for that, bitch,” he snarls. “Today, the Gallagher’s finally die. Kind of fitting that you’ll have your demise where your father met his.”
Anger rips through me at his words. Oh, I’m going to enjoy killing his bastard.
Before anyone can say another word, three vehicles race toward us, stopping beside the ones Carter and his men arrived in. My jaw clenches so hard it’s a wonder it doesn’t lock.
