“Of course. You’ll be there before me.”
“That’s okay. I need a shower anyway,” she says, her voice even.
My gut tightens at her words. Fuck.
“I’ll see you soon,Mia cara.”
“Bye,mo chroí,” she whispers, and the call ends.
I fucking love that she calls me that.
“Let me guess,” Hayden says with a smirk. “She’s going home, and she doesn’t want to see anyone.”
I nod. “Yep,” I reply as I move toward the door, Elio hot on my heels and Dario trailing behind.
“Look after her,” Edwina whispers.
I’m pissed she even has to say it. I don’t answer her as I walk out of the house. I don’t need anyone telling me to look after my own fucking wife.
“Please tell me we’re not going to let the Irish get their revenge?” Dario hisses as we climb into my car.
“Fuck no,” I reply. “No one touches my wife.”
His grin is sadistic. “Good. It’s been a while since we’ve wreaked havoc.”
I turn to Elio. “Find out where Detective Barker lives. With Jade outing the fucker, it means it could be one of a thousand people who could have him killed. We’ll make sure we’re the first.”
I pass by my parents’ house on the way home, dropping off both of my brothers. They’ll find out the information I need. Before I can take that fucker out, I want to go home and check on my wife.
The moment I walk into our home, I hear the shower on. I pray to God that I don’t find her on the ground crying. If I do, there’s not a fucking hope in hell that I’ll be able to keep my cool. Thankfully, she’s not. She’s in the shower, her body wet, and I see the imprints of bruises starting to form on her body.
“I’m fine, Roc,” she tells me. “It could have been worse.”
“Worse?” I hiss as I step toward her. She switches the shower off and I pass her the towel. “Baby, that fucker put his hands on you. You’re fucking bruised, and you tell me you’re fine?”
She sighs as she climbs out of the shower. “I know it looks bad, but I’ve popped some painkillers and I’ll be right as rain in a few days.”
I swear this female is going to be the death of me.
“Rocco.” Her voice is sterner now. “I don’t want you doing anything to that asshole.”
“Tell me,Mia cara, if the tables were turned, what would you do?” I ask as I pull her into my arms, needing to hold her, make sure for myself that she’s okay. Her sass is as it ever was, which quells my bloodlust for a few moments.
“I’d kill him,” she replies simply.
I nod. There’s nothing else to say. No matter what she says, it’s not going to change that fucker’s outcome. He’s a dead man walking.
She releases a yawn and winces when she opens her mouth. I beat back the rage that’s coursing through my veins, beating against me to be let loose.
“You’re going to bed,” I tell her as I lift her into my arms. “You need sleep.”
She pouts. “Mean,” she grunts.
I chuckle. No matter that I’m raging mad, she always manages to make me laugh. “Once I’m back, I’ll get on with my promise.”
Her eyes light up and she nods. “Don’t do anything stupid. The last thing I need is to be visiting you for the next twenty-five to life.”
I slap her ass. “Funny, babe. Now climb into bed and sleep. I won’t be long.” I press a kiss against her head, not wanting to go near her lip in case I hurt her.
