“I have,” Rollo said, frowning a little. “If you have a crush on her, I could get her number for you?”

Ava laughed bluntly, sarcastically. She rolled her eyes and folded her arms over her chest, unable to look at Rollo’s lying face. She knew the truth. All she wanted was for him to admit it. She would get the answers out of him eventually, she’d just have to be patient.

“Rollo!” A high-pitched voice squealed. “What areyoudoing here?”

Ava looked up from the table in time to see the girl Rollo had most definitely screwed. She was wearing a thin, knitted sweatshirt that barely covered her midriff. High-waisted jeans covered her bottom half, so snugly wrapped around her legs that they may as well have been yoga pants. The girl’s clothes were so revealing, she was quite obviously taking pride in flaunting her curves.

Rollo stood up from the table. “Zoey,” he said, a little too happily. “I could ask you the same thing.”

Zoey pointed over her shoulder to two people standing a short distance behind her. Both of them looked somewhat similar to her, only thirty years older.

“Your parents?” Rollo asked. “That’s cool. You guys eating here or just passing through?”

“We’re having a meal,” Zoey said. “Why don’t you and your wife join us?”

Ava’s eyes scowled at the girl.Well, she knows I’m his wife, at least. But isn’t that worse? What kind of person tries to steal someone’s husband?

Rollo stuttered and stammered, before looking over his shoulder to Ava. He shrugged with a gleeful smile. That was hiswhat-can-I-doface. He felt like he had to say yes. There was no getting out of it now, not even if she tried.

Without giving Ava a chance to argue, he looked to Zoey and spoke for them both. “Sure, we’d love to!”

After a quick round of introductions, Ava reluctantly learned that Zoey’s father, Eric, owned his own chain of home improvement stores whilst her mother, Jasmine, had been a homemaker for twenty years.

They moved to a larger table in the center of the room. Zoey’s parents sat down next to each other and began perusing the menu. Rollo and Zoey were getting comfortable in their seats, sitting across the table from one another. Ava sat down in her seat at the end, feeling like a fifth wheel.

How could one girl make her feel so inferior, especially when it came to her husband? Ava had always been confident in the knowledge that she was Rollo’s sole focus. No other girl had managed to get under her skin the way this girl had.

Zoey sat with her eyes fixated on Rollo’s face. Ava took the opportunity to inspect the girl, trying to figure out what she was about. Her blue eyes were farther apart than normal, making her nose look wider than it really was. Her light brown eyebrows were thin and plucked to perfection, revealing her true hair color. Her skin looked full and plump, the clear signs of youth.

Besides that, she looked almost average. Ava couldn’t see what the big deal was about her, but Rollo obviously thought she was cute.

The night dragged on. She was on vacation and yet she was spending the evening with her husband’s lover and her family. What had her life become?

All she could do was sit back and watch Zoey focus all of her attention on Rollo. She was laughing at all of his jokes, even the bad ones. She was touching his arm, playing with her hair, smiling at him all the time. It was so obvious what she was trying to do, it was almost painful to watch.

Rollo was eating it up, though. He leaned in closer and closer, talking to her about computers and robots as they waited for their food to arrive.

Ava learned to tune out their conversation quickly. She wasn’t interested in what they were saying. She glanced up every now and then, nodding along with whatever it was they were talking about, but she wasn’t listening. Ava just watched their body language and made sure to keep her legs in front of Rollo’s. That girl wouldn’t get her feet anywhere near his crotch.

“Hey, dad?” Zoey asked, looking away from Rollo for the first time the entire night.

“Yes, pumpkin?” Eric replied instantly.

Ava rolled her eyes.Of course he calls her pumpkin. Of course.

“There’s a reggae bar on the beach,” Zoey said, so sweet her voice was sickening. “Would you take me down there so I can have a look?”

“Can’t you go by yourself?” He asked.

Zoey frowned and pouted like a baby. “No,” she whined. “I need someone to go with me. It’s dark out there.”

“It’s fine,” Rollo said as he stood up from his seat. “I’ll go with you.”

Ava’s stomach dropped through her body. She reached out and grabbed his wrists, staring up at him with furious eyes. She was about to stop him, but then a strange thought popped into her mind.

An image of Rollo making out with that girl sent a hot spasm through her body, forcing her thighs to tense. She changed her tone as she stood, and instead wrapped her arms around Rollo’s neck, embracing him. The idea of her husband’s mouth on Zoey was too much to handle. There was no turning back from this. She had to follow her feelings and see where they lead them.

“Kiss her if you want,” Ava whispered as she held her husband.
