“Enzo,” she chided under her breath, but it sounded more like a plea.

I hadn’t done it consciously, but I was going to use every opportunity to my advantage. Any chance to touch her, I wouldn’t hesitate. I took the water from her and gulped some down before returning to the game.

“Here I am!” A blond man bounded through the yard and nearly tackled Harper. I started to race toward them to check if she was okay, but she was laughing.

I clenched and unclenched my fists, adrenaline surging through me as I warred with the urge to protect her and the baby.

“Chase, this is Enzo. Enzo, Chase,” Harper said.

“Well, this is interesting.” Chase hung his arm over Harper’s shoulder. “Isn’t it, Lan?”

“Guys,” Harper said through gritted teeth.

“What?” Chase lifted a shoulder, and I tried to understand the subtext of their conversation. This was clearly something between siblings. “You’ve never brought someone home, so I figure this means you’re either engaged or pregnant.”

Harper froze and so did Chase.

“Oh shit.” He glanced at her left hand, then her stomach when he didn’t find an engagement ring. “You’re pregnant?”
