She pops up off the bed like it’s on fire. “Room service! Yes!”

She grabs the folder off the desk and flips it open just as there’s a knock on the door.

We share a look and I go to the door, look through the peephole, and see a bellman standing outside. “Room service!” he hollers through the heavy metal door.

“Did we just manifest that?” She closes her eyes and folds her hands together like she’s praying. “I’d like to order a hot thirty-something who doesn’t have commitment issues. Preferably with a beard, tattoos, and the ability to cook and clean.”

I snicker at her and open the door.

“Hi. I think you have the wrong room. We didn’t order anything.”

He looks at a paper in a booklet and at the number next to the door.

“We have an order for two here. It was ordered this morning with instructions to deliver at this time to this room.”

“Huh?”

I turn and look at Corbin just as my phone chimes in my pocket.

Brock:Figured you two would be hungry before you started primping or pampering or massaging.

“It’s from Brock,” I murmur and she cheers, “Best brother ever!”

“I take it the order is for this room?”

“Seems so.”

The bellman grins and advances into the room when I step aside. “Two grilled chicken Caesar salads, iced tea, and two fudge brownies. Where would you like it?”

“Table is fine. Thank you.”

I rush to my purse and grab some cash for a tip, hand it to him, and then he’s gone.

Me:Brock.

Brock:Naomi.

Me:You’re ridiculous, you know that? We can order our own food.

Brock:But aren’t you glad you don’t have to?

Yes, but that’s beside the point.

Me:Maybe I didn’t want a salad. Maybe I wanted a big ol’ steak.

Brock:I read online that you’re supposed to eat a light meal and drink plenty of water before spa treatments. Not sure why it matters, but figured you wouldn’t want a big ol’ steak.

Me:You read it online? Are you researching spa treatments for yourself?

Brock:Obviously. Though, to be fair, I saw they had couple’s massages and became intrigued so I kept reading.

The green side of me wants to ask right away who the other half of that couple would be getting a couple’s massage but luckily my fingers listen to the logical side of me instead and I don’t ask. That would be embarrassing. He’d see right through it. Or jump to conclusions. Which actually wouldn’t be a jump, but he doesn’t need to know that. It’s just my weird heart playing tricks on me because I’m single again.

Me:You’re too generous. Corbin told me you paid for everything.

Brock:She’s a liar. I’m not generous at all.

Me:Agree to disagree. ;)
