She thinks for a moment. Actually has to think about it. So long I start laughing again.

“Okay, maybe don’t answer that.”

She grins. “Just so you don’t think I’m a weirdo, it was just that good. Imighthave been exaggerating a bit. But dang, that was the best thing ever. Paisley wasn’t lying.”

“No, she wasn’t,” I agree, resting comfortably but sweating like crazy.

“She was super nice, wasn’t she?”

“Yeah, she was.”

“You know what I kept thinking about when we were talking to her?”

“Boone?”

She gasps. “How’d you know?”

“I was thinking the same thing. She and Boone would be so perfect for each other. I can’t even explain it since we talked to her for ten minutes, but there was something about her.”

“Right? I can picture them together so perfectly.”

“We should have her join us at Local Goat when we go.”

She doesn’t answer, just lifts her hand for a high-five.

“I love this place,” she says on a sigh.

“Never leaving,” I murmur.

ChapterSeven

Brock

The girls have been gone for two days and because they’ve been sending me pictures, I know they’re having a great time. Selfies of the two of them relaxing in the hot tub, what they’re eating, video of the room they’re staying in.

It makes me wish I were in Corbin’s place right now, but also very glad the two of them have each other. I know I need to get control of my feelings for Naomi, but I feel like I’ve squashed them for so many years and now that she’s single, I’m fighting against my desire to have the girl of my dreams and give her the time she needs and deserves.

I’m dedicated to being her friend, though. I’m simply happy to have her back in my life. I respected her marriage because that’s what a guy does who is actually considerate of others’ feelings.

“Wanna grab dinner?” Cash asks, walking into my office. Boone is right behind him. “Boone, Cody, and I are gonna go for some pizza and wings.”

I twist the pen in between my fingers, spinning it around a few times. “Sounds good to me. Mom and Stone coming, too?”

Cody goes to our mom’s house after school every day and she watches him until Boone’s done working. Since the day Boone came to Mom and told him his high school girlfriend was pregnant but didn’t want the baby, she’s wanted to help any way she could. He had just graduated from high school and has never regretted his decision to raise Cody on his own.

He’d begged Daisy, Cody’s birth mom, to let him have the chance to be a dad. As Mom told him, it changed his life course and it wasn’t going to be easy, but he has the two best uncles, the best aunt, and without a doubt the best nana and papa with his family. He’s also hysterical and the best kid ever. Not that I’m biased or anything.

Boone shakes his head. “I asked, but they have plans tonight.”

“Guys night out,” I reply, grinning. “Give me ten minutes and I’ll be done here.”

They give me a single nod and go do their thing to close up their offices. We meet by our vehicles and Boone tells us he’s going to grab Cody and to head over and save a table. It’s Friday night and the place we’re going starts filling up already at six o’clock and Cody doesn’t necessarily have the patience of an adult. He’s also hungry all the time, so once the pizza hits his nose, he’ll be demanding food.

“Want to ride with me?” Cash asks.

“Sure.”

We hop in and he makes the long five minute trek across town and finds a parking spot across the street. “Hittin’ The Pub after dinner?” I suggest.
