“You wound me. Have a good night, darlin’.”

“You, too. Talk soon.”

I go back inside, make a pit stop at the restroom and do my business, wash my hands, then pull my phone back out and text Brock.

Me:A fight? Really?

Brock:Yup.

Me:That’s all you’ve got to say?

Brock:Until you’re back home and I can explain it in person, yes.

Brock:He cheated on you, Naomi.

Me:Yup.

Brock:Seems like we have a lot to talk about when you get home.

Me:Seems like it. I’ll come over tomorrow night after I get home and settled.

Brock:Good plan. See you then. Enjoy your last night.

Me:We will. Xoxo

Brock:xoxo

“What was that about?” Corbin asks as soon as I sit back down.

I chug the rest of my beer first. “Brock and Wyatt got into a fight last night. Cash slipped up and told him about Wyatt cheating on me.” I narrow my eyes on Corbin and she pulls an eek face, then turn to Paisley to explain, “Wyatt’s my ex-husband.”

“Good thing he’s an ex.”

“Yes, it is. Let’s eat, huh? And drink?”

“Told you it was a good idea to have someone else drive tonight.” She raises a hand in the air and our server stops over shortly after. We order another round and Corbin says, “We’re going to need to keep the drinks coming. We’ll be ordering more food. And definitely dessert.”

“You got it.”

We dive into the appetizers, even though Paisley and Corbin had already started, and they’re as delicious as the beer is. I’m glad we ordered three different ones because I have a feeling we’re going to need lots of food to soak up our alcohol tonight.

“So… what’d you think of Boone?” I ask Paisley.

“He’s… I don’t know. Definitely hot,” she says with a giggle. “Sorry, Corbin. That’s probably awkward to hear about your brother.”

Corbin waves her off. “Nah. I’m used to it.”

“He’s not always soforward, though. I promise. I mean, he is. He’s quick to compliment, but he doesn’t just throw them around to anyone. He asked me to bring you to Red Oak sometime.”

She flushes. “What’s the story with his son? You said there was one.”

“Short story? He and his high school girlfriend got pregnant right before graduation. She didn’t want to keep the baby, he did. She signed over her rights so he’s been a single dad for almost thirteen years now.”

“Wow.”

“We help, of course, but he’s a very dedicated dad. He’s never once complained.”

“That’s pretty admirable.”
