I nod against his chest and step out of his hold but I don’t get far before he tugs me back to him and gives me a soft kiss.
“Let’s get rid of these drugs.”
A giggle bursts through my lips. “Those are words I never expected you to say.”
“Me either,” he says, chuckling. “Talked to Cash when I got back to the office and told him you were going to look around. He suggested just flushing it. Not because we don’t want the cops to know that Wyatt had more than what they already found, but because it’ll only draw everything out. Don’t know if that’s good advice or not, but I tend to agree with him.”
I chew on my lower lip and say, “I’m conflicted. I agree that it would be easier but I also don’t want him to get away with it.”
He rubs up and down my arms, calming my nerves and helping me to relax. “This is your decision. We can always call Charlie and tell him to stop over. Let him know what you found and tell him to get rid of it. That we don’t want it to become anything. We’ve known him long enough, he might help us. Then again, he’s a cop and he might have other ideas.”
I groan and grab his hand, pulling him behind me. “How about I show you what I found and we can look around to make sure there’s not more here? It doesn’t look like a lot but then again, I have no idea how much cocaine is considered a lot.”
“Any amount is considered a lot in my opinion.”
“So true.”
I pull out the edge of the dresser and point to the small baggie taped to the back and his eyes go big. “Okay, so that’s cocaine.”
I playfully hit his chest. “I told you!”
“I know but I’ve never actually seen it and it’s taking me a little to process!”
“Now that you’ve seen it, what do you think we should do?”
He scrubs a hand down his face, looks at the baggie again, and then turns to me. “I think we need to call Charlie. Or maybe Dale.”
Dale! Why didn’t I think of that? I feel better telling him what I found and having him decide. “Dale. Let’s call him. Good idea.”
I pull my phone out of my pocket and dial his number. He answers on the first ring.
“Hello?”
“Hi, Dale. Um, there’s something at my house I need you to take a look at. Are you close?”
“Just pulling in, actually. I was going to grab Wyatt’s car and get it out of your driveway.”
“Oh.” I look at Brock with wide eyes. “You’re here?”
“I am.”
“Door’s unlocked now so come on in and back to the guest bedroom.”
“Will do. Duke’s with me, he was going to drive Wyatt’s car. I’ll have him get on the way unless you want him to come in with me?”
I scratch my head. “He can come in with you.”
Brock takes a step closer, his body alert, and I put a hand on my chest and whisper, “His brother Duke.”
He visibly relaxes and nods.
Moments later my front door opens and I hear heavy footsteps walk through the house.
“Bad day, huh, darlin’?” Duke asks, pulling me into a hug.
“You could say that. This doesn’t make the day any better, though.” I wince and point behind the dresser. “This is the room Wyatt stayed in while we were separated.”
The two men look behind the dresser. Duke whistles and Dale growls. “Are you shitting me?”
