My dad! Holy crap! He’s going to freak out.

Me:Umm. I haven’t told Dad anything yet. He’s going to be pretty upset.

Leah:On it. Stone and I will pick up your dad and be over there shortly.

Me:No, that’s okay. I don’t think it would be good to have a bunch of people here.

Leah:Then we’ll just wait out on the porch. We want to be there for you, honey.

Me:I appreciate that but having an audience probably isn’t for the best.

Leah:How about this. Stone and I will go over to your dad’s and tell him what happened and explain how you somehow forgot to tell him. Help him to stay calm. Somehow. And we’ll wait for your call to come over.

Me:Good luck on the whole keeping him calm thing. And explaining how I somehow forgot to tell him.

Leah:Let me work my magic.

Me:Thanks, Leah.

Leah:Anytime. Call me soon.

Me:Ok

I turn and see Brock texting on his phone, too. Probably to Cash. Or maybe the entire family. What a great start to a new relationship. Dealing with my ex-husband’s drug problem.

“Your brother?” I guess.

He nods. “Just updating him.”

“I texted your mom, too. I forgot to tell my dad.”

“You haven’t told your dad yet?” Duke asks, surprised.

I cringe. “I forgot. A lot has happened today.”

He smirks and looks at Brock. “I bet.”

I scowl at him. “That’s not what I meant.”

“I know but it’s fun to give you shit.”

Dale walks back into the room and announces, “Charlie’s only a couple minutes out. He was just getting off duty and said he’d stop over on his way home.”

“He doesn’t have to do that!”

Dale gives me a look and I shrink back. “He doesn’t mind.”

“Isn’t that considered illegal, though? Having an off-duty cop do stuff like this?”

Duke shrugs and states, “Don’t have a clue about the legal system but I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t stop over if it was a problem.”

“Does anyone want something to drink? I’m getting a glass of water with a side of whiskey.”

Dale laughs. “Sounds about right. Let’s start with water, though, shall we?”

“Fun hater.”

I grab bottles of water out of the fridge and hand them out, leaving an extra on the counter for when Charlie arrives for our fun little party.
