“This is… thank you,” she whispers, her voice barely above a whisper. “I love it.”

“You don’t say,” I joke, watching as she stares at it with wide eyes.

“This is way better than flowers.”

Pride fills my chest knowing I did good.

“I need to know your ways.”

Smiling, I explain, “I emailed her. Ordered the t-shirt on her website and then begged, pleaded, and explained the situation and who I was buying it for and she sent me the book as well.”

“Explained the situation?”

“That I finally have the chance with the girl of my dreams who just so happens to be a romance author.”

Tears flood her eyes and she takes a step closer, wrapping her arms around my waist and hugging me tight. “You always have the good answers.”

I kiss the top of her head and hug her back.

“The Wall of Winnepeg and Meis one of the best books ever. Thank you for this. I’ll treasure it forever.”

“I’m glad you like it.”

“I’ll be right back. I’m going to go put this on my bookshelf.”

She’s only gone a few moments before joining me again.

“Ready to find out what we’re doing tonight?”

“Finally! I’m dying to know.”

I suddenly feel a little nervous again. It’s a little different than a typical date but then again, we’ve never been typical and don’t see that changing anytime soon.

I motion for her to follow me to her kitchen table where I set the small box down.

“Another present?” she asks.

“Kind of. But it’s for both of us, I guess.”

Lifting the flaps on the box, I take out the first item and hand it to her.

“A chatterbox?”

I chuckle. “Is that what it’s called?”

“Well, it’s also a cootie catcher or whirlybird, I’ve heard, but yeah, my friends and I always called it a chatterbox.”

“Then it’s a chatterbox.”

She gives me an odd look but she’s clearly intrigued.

“Okay, I’ll bite. We’re going to play chatterbox?”

I gulp down the nerves. “To decide our date destinations, yeah.”

That makes her eyes light up and she bites her lower lip, inserting her fingers into the bottom of the paper.

“I thought we could take turns, each spelling out words or using numbers, however you want to play it. And then we go wherever we land on.”
