“One what?” I whisper back.

“A baby, of course,” he says easily, kissing the sensitive spot below my ear. I can’t help the smile that spreads across my face at the thought of starting a family with Walker. “Would you like that?”

I turn to him, resting my forehead on his. “More than anything.”

Walker’s eyes are filled with such love I can feel it in every breath, every beat of his heart. He’s about to kiss me when Melissa clears her throat.

"Alright, you two. Let's eat lunch before I lose my appetite." Her tone is exasperated, but the sparkle in her eye lets me know she's happy for me.

“There’s just one last gift,” Walker says. He stands up, reaching his hand out to help me up as well. I set my hot chocolate down and tilt my head to the side, wondering what he’s up to. Walker doesn’t make me wait for long. He drops down on one knee, pulling out a little velvet box. He opens it up to reveal a breathtaking ring.

“Walker…” I gasp, tears springing to my eyes. The ring has a beautiful round diamond nestled into the middle of a thick silver band. There are several stars and a moon engraved on the band, making it absolutely perfect. It’s special. Not gaudy or over the top. My hand goes to the necklace he gave me, my fingers tracing over the matching moon and stars.

“I had this made the same day I picked up your necklace.”

“You...you did?” I whisper. He nods in confirmation. “I can’t believe you knew after one week.”

“I can’t believe it took me that long to figure it out.” Walker slips the ring on my finger and then stares at it, like he’s admiring me wearing his jewelry. “Someone once told me to trust my gut,” he murmurs, looking up at me with that sweet, sexy smirk of his.

“Oh yeah? And what’s your gut telling you?”

“That I’m looking at my forever.” Tears stream down my face, blurring my vision. “Indigo Wright, will you—"

“Yes!” I shout, tackling Walker to the floor. He wraps his arms around me, chuckling at my response. I feel the vibrations of his laughter course through me, filling me up as I take a deep breath. “I knew the universe was right about you.”

He grins before tangling his fingers in my hair and pulling me down for a passionate kiss. I taste promises of forever on his lips.

Carson shrieks and then giggles, making Walker and I laugh. He helps me up, then pulls me into his arms, my back to his front, before placing a sweet kiss on the crown of my head.

“Anyone else have any life altering announcements?” Melissa asks. I look over to where she’s sitting, a watery smile spread across her face.

“Nope,” I sigh. “This was enough for one day.”

“Then let’s get lunch for the happy couple.” Melissa gets up and walks toward the kitchen, now officially in hostess mode. I know today was a lot for her, first with accepting all the gifts, and now with me getting engaged. She needs the distraction to process, and I’m more than happy to let her go. For now. I’m sure we’ll talk all about it later.

“Love that big heart of yours, pixie,” Walker murmurs into the shell of my ear.

“What made you say that?” I ask, turning to look at him over my shoulder.

“I know you’re concerned about your sister, but she loves you, baby girl. She’s happy for you, I promise.”

“How…?” I’m not sure if I’m asking how he knew what I was thinking, or how he knows my sister is happy.

“The universe told me.” I roll my eyes at his cop out, then gasp when he spins me around in his arms. “Plus, I talked to Melissa a few days ago. She knows I’m serious about you and that all I want to do is take care of you. She’s happy, I promise.”

“You talked to her?” Those dang tears clog my throat again.

“Of course. I know how much she and Carson mean to you. I didn’t want her to think I was stealing you away.”

“You really do think of everything, don’t you?”

“When it comes to you? Absolutely. I find it hard to think about anything else.” He kisses my forehead and breathes me in. “Love you, pixie.”

“I love you so much, Walker. Thank you for always taking care of me. I don’t know how I can ever express what you mean to me.”

He leans back, winding his hand around my long hair, tugging lightly so we’re face to face. “I can think of a few ways you can express your gratitude,” he growls softly.

Before I can respond, Walker kisses the ever living fuck out of me. I surrender to him completely, getting lost in the way he loves me with every swipe of his tongue. He finally breaks our kiss, making me whimper at the loss.
