“I feel like the worst friend in the world. Why did he have to die? Why did Creed have to die? He didn’t deserve this,” I sob.

I can feel him shake his head beside me. “We can’t take it back, no matter how badly we want to. All we can do is move forward from here. He lived a good fucking life. We make sure Vienna lives a good life. That’s what he would want.”

My chest aches painfully in my chest, a grief that feels never-ending. I want the pain to go away, I’d do anything for it to disappear, but it won’t. There isn’t anything I can do to make the pain go away.

“It’ll all be okay, Lakyn. In time, it’ll all be okay,” he rasps in my ear, and his warm lips press against my neck. I lift my head, looking at the crowd, watching as funeral workers lower the casket into the plot. My brow furrows as I watch the wave of black shake, as if every single person is simultaneously sobbing in pain.

“Police are in the parking lot. We need to go,” Reign whispers in my ear. I turn my head to the parking lot, seeing the two FBI SUVs pull into the back parking spots. They are mostly hidden, yet at the same time stick out like a sore thumb.

“If we get up now, we’ll be seen,” I mumble.

He sighs. “If we stay here, we’ll also be seen. We need to go. When I say go, we need to dart behind this tree.”

“Archer brought us here, though. We can’t go get him,” I stare at the crowd, watching Archer who has his arm around Posie. She cries in his arms, both of them looking distraught.

“We’re on our own,” I whisper to myself. Reign understands what I mean, though.

“Yeah. Let’s go. Now,” he snaps under his breath, and we move, shoving off the sand and making our way behind the tree. Reign’s arm shoves against my chest, and he keeps me still against the trunk as he glances around it, toward the parking lot.

“Clear. Let’s move.” He grabs onto my wrist, hauling me across the cemetery. Our feet crunch against the snow as we bolt away from the FBI. Glancing over my shoulder, I don’t see anyone following us, no FBI, no one from the funeral party noticing us.

It’s just us.

At the end of the day, that’s all I need.

“Lakyn.” My name is whispered above me, and my eyes crack open. All I can see above me is Reign, standing there with the yellow glow from the fire illuminating his eyes. He stares at me with a coldness in his eyes, one that leaves my body shivering even when my body prickles with heat from the nearby flames.

After we safely made it back to the cabin, both of us quickly fell asleep by the warm fire in the living room.

“What’s wrong?” I whisper, my fingers lifting to his cheek. I brush the shadow of his beard, the rough hairs scratching my fingers.

“We need to go. It’s time to get out of here.” His fingers drop to my neck, and trail down my chest, landing on the curve of my hip. He squeezes tightly, holding me against him.

“Where are we going?” I whisper, my hand dropping to his shoulder.

“Wherever we want to go,” he murmurs as his face drops to my chest. He kisses a path along my collarbone. His hand shoves up his shirt that I’m wearing, until my panties are showing, and then my breasts are revealed. His mouth darts to my nipple, his tongue swiping along the hardened peak.

“Don’t we have to go?” I moan.

His teeth scrape along my flesh, and I jolt in his arms. “I changed my mind. I want to have a taste of you first.” His free hand goes to my other breast, squeezing roughly as he bites at my nipple. “I want to taste all of you.”

I arch my breasts into his mouth, and he wraps his arms behind my back, holding me in his arms as he ravishes my body. I pull at his clothes, and he leans back, grabbing the fabric behind his head and tugging it over his head. His naked, tattooed chest comes into view, and he leans down, connecting skin against skin. He’s warm against me, and the other side of my body prickles with heat from the flames of the fire.

“If this is our last night together, I want it to be the best night of our lives,” he rasps in my ear.

He slides down my body, his hands gripping my thighs. He lifts them over his shoulders, and I relax my legs open, my eyes settling closed as the warmth from his breath floods between my legs.

“Your smell is intoxicating, baby Lake, and I’ll never get enough of you.”

I arch into his mouth, and my mouth opens on a gasp when his tongue flattens against my silky folds. He covers me with his tongue, humming out a moan when he tastes my arousal. “You taste like the most delicious, sweetest fruit I’ve ever tasted.”

He flicks his tongue against my clit, and I let out a moan, my hips bucking against him. He moans deeper, gripping my thighs with his fingers as he pulls me close. His face burrows between my legs, and a cry escapes my lips.

“That’s it, baby. Scream my name to the world.” His fingers brush against his scarred initials above my pussy. “Who it is you belong to you?”

“You, Reign. It’s always been you,” I cry out.

He hums deeply, his tongue flicking madly against my clit. Again and again until every flick creates a jolt against my body. I can feel the warmth settle in my lower belly, an electricity which has my body racked in tremors.
