Her eyes flashed open. “Is it time?”

“Time for me to head to the clubhouse to prepare.” Boxer and Grizzly had been doing recon at the church where the exchange was to happen. We had others camped out the same way we had when we rescued Angel from the Dirty Hunters. With the church and surrounding area protected, Dorian and his goons couldn’t escape.

I couldn’t stop thinking about Boxer’s informant. Each time I stirred during the night, I wondered if he’d seen Raymond or if the guys Storm had sent to go investigate the place where they’d been holding my brother discovered anything. I couldn’t wait to get to the clubhouse to find out.

“I’m up.” She threw back the covers.

“You don’t have to get out of bed.”

“Try and stop me.” She pecked my lips and went into the bathroom. My stubborn woman.

I was already dressed, so I waited for her on the edge of the bed. Different scenarios played out in my head of how the swap could go.

Dorian could immediately notice that Libby wasn’t Brynne and he could kill Raymond without a second thought.

Or we could get the upper hand, rescue Raymond, and take down Dorian in one fell swoop.

We had to come out of this intact. Nobody could get hurt, especially not Tina and my brother. I didn’t want anything to happen to Libby either.

“Shit,” I hissed and buried my head between my hands.Momma, please be with us, be our guardian angel.I knew I didn’t need to ask but talking to her comforted me.

“Joseph? Baby, are you okay?” Brynne wrapped her arms around me and dotted kisses on my forehead.

“I’m just praying, Bonita. Praying everyone comes out in one piece.”

“I didn’t grow up attending church other than on Christmas and Easter. But I believe there’s a higher power looking out for us.”

Shaking my head, I reeled her into my arms. “No one is looking out for us. Too much bad shit has happened.”

“Don’t say that.” She took my hand and put it against her stomach. “Our baby is a good thing.”

“Raymond is missing.”

“But he’s alive.”

“Copper and Ryder are in jail.”

“It could’ve been you, then who would’ve kept our baby and me safe?”

“You sure are a fast thinker.” I kissed her neck.

“I’m just giving you a different perspective.”

“I appreciate it. Let’s get going.” I needed her positive outlook now more than ever before. At least, she would be at the compound, heavily guarded and safe. For that, I thanked God for looking out for her.

We entered the clubhouse. It was usually quiet at this hour. Gone were the all-night parties we used to have. I didn’t miss them. And I knew for a fact my married brothers didn’t either.

“Any new updates?” I asked Storm.

“No. The church has been quiet. No movement in or out of it.”

“That’s good, right?”

“Yeah, but I don’t want anyone going inside to investigate. It could be a trap.” His steely gray eyes darted around the room. “Sheriff Hendricks brought six men with him. Mitch and his SAA, Deacon, are staying here for added protection at the compound. We couldn’t be too safe. Jack and Maverick are already out there with Ire and Hollywood.”

“All right.” I blew out a nervous breath.

“I’m locked and loaded,” Markey said. “I’ll be at the gate. Nobody will get through who doesn’t belong here.” The dude looked like a secondhand substitution forRambo. He might have dark bushy hair and an angular jawline like his twin, Maddox, but he needed to gain at least fifty pounds of muscle. I shouldn’t give him any shit. He hadn’t wanted to be in the MC until recently.
