“But we gotta go back. Turn the cage around,” Raymond shouted at Dodge. “We have to go back to where they were holding me.”

“No,” Dodge snapped. “I’m taking you to the compound like your dad and Storm said. We can get a crew and go search afterward.”

“It won’t do any good.” Boxer glanced back at us. “The place was empty when Hollywood and Arctic got there last night, so they returned to the compound after searching the place.”

“What? She’s gone? They’ll kill her!” Raymond smashed his face against my chest and cried. “They’ll hurt her and kill her, Mom.”

What was I to tell him? For all we knew, they were already dead.

“Ssh, my sweet boy.” I hugged him. “Everything will be okay.” As we approached the compound, dread crashed down on me.

Track

What the fuck had happened? The iron gate had been torn down like a tank had crashed through. “Jesus Christ. Stop the car!” I shouted, bolting out of the backseat before Dodge had put the vehicle in park.

Removing my handgun from the holster while I trotted toward the clubhouse, the devastation in the parking lot reminded me of the day my mom had been gunned down.

A few officers and men in camo uniforms were dead. I heard a noise and spun around, aiming my weapon and ready to shoot.

“It’s me, don’t shoot!” Markey had his hands raised.

“What the fuck happened here? Where’s Brynne?”

“That black van happened.” He pointed past me. “Six guys jumped out and started shooting. Thank God the guard shack is bulletproof, or I’d be dead right now.”

“Christ,” I glanced at the steel box he’d been in.

“Track!” Sugar ran out of the clubhouse with Sheriff Hendricks. “Oh my God, did you get Raymond? Where’s Tina?”

“Over here,” Tina called. “Where’s Brynne?”

“In the suite with Valerie.” Markey pointed behind him at the family wing.

“Is she okay?” I took off, pounding the ground at full throttle like when I ran track. Fuck, my mind was blown at the mayhem on the property.

“Yeah, my brother is guarding them.” Markey followed me. “I’m glad you’re back.”

“Should’ve never left my woman.” They hadn’t needed me at the church. I burst through the door and was furious with myself.

Before I saw him, I was smashed into the wall. “Shit, you startled me!” Maddox grabbed my arm to steady me. “My nerves are shot after the attack.”

“Attack,” the word turned my blood cold. “Sorry, man. I gotta see Brynne. No time to talk.” The club had been attacked, and my woman had been left vulnerable? I’d never forgive myself.

“I have the key.” Maddox jogged in front of me. “They’re okay but freaked out.”

“I bet.”

“Brynne, Track is here,” he called. “They’re in the bedroom.”

“Thanks.” I went to our room. My chest seized when I saw fear in their eyes. “Dammit, I’m sorry.” I rushed to my woman and hugged her and Valerie at the same time. “Are you both okay?” I hoped Brynne understood my meaning, that I was asking about the baby. Of course I was concerned for my little sister too.

“Yes, we’reallokay. Just scared.” She kissed my cheek. “Maddox protected us while the fighting went on outside. I have no idea what happened or the outcome. He hasn’t let us leave the suite.”

“Good. You don’t need to see the aftermath.”

Her eyes went wide. “That bad?”
