Nate gets out and meets me by the passenger side, caging me against the door.
“I’ll be the happiest man if you do.” He leans in and kisses me.
I melt against the metal door and wrap one arm around his neck. Kissing him back, I close my eyes and sink into this feeling.
“Is that a yes?” Nate asks against my lips.
“No one else I’d rather dance with.” I comb my fingers through the back of his hair, and he moans.
“Let’s go inside before we head back to your place.” His husky voice makes my belly clench.
“I expect you to spin me around the dance floor before you get any loving.” I jab his chest teasingly.
“You got it, babe.” He kisses the corner of my mouth and pushes off the truck, reaching his hand out for me to grab.
I hold his hand and walk into the bar feeling like the main character in one of my beloved romance novels. I’ve got the best guy by my side. Nate looks over at me and winks as we reach our friends.
“I’ve gotta say, this is quite the view,” Dani says, wiggling her fingers at us. I roll my eyes and shake my head.
“Hey.” Nate smiles at her.
“Don’t ‘Hey’ me Mr. Deputy. You’ve stolen my best friend and think a smile with dimples is going to win me over. No, siree.” She shakes her finger at him.
“Don’t listen to her.” I look up at him.
“I guess your talk with Sheriff went well today,” Luke adds, smirking.
I roll my eyes before looking at him. Nate chuckles, squeezing my hand.
“It went great.” He nods.
“I need new friends,” I say.
“Nonsense.” Dani waves her hand. “We’re the best you’ll find. Right, Lukey?” She gets on her toes and hooks her arm around his neck.
“I hate when you call me that.” He glares at her, and I laugh.
“You secretly love it.” She blows him a kiss and releases him.
“Hey, guys.” Avery comes up behind me.
I turn around and smile at her and Gabriel.
“You made it,” I tell her.
“Yup. I might fall asleep on the bar, but we’re here for a one drink.” She holds her finger up. “We really need to plan these outings on Saturdays since I close the bakery on Sundays.”
“True,” I nod.
“Life is short and we are young,” Dani says. “We need to celebrate any chance we get.”
“Is she already drunk?” Nate whispers in my ear.
“No, this is Dani in her element.”
“Gotcha. What do you want to drink?”
“Can I go wild tonight since I have a DD?” I wink at him.
