“What if she doesn’t care and does it anyway?”

Chrissy looks back at Francis, “You mean if she still marries that jerkoff?”

They’re starting to piss me off. This is why the three of us run our crews separately. We don’t work well together—Egos tend to clash.

I stop them both with, “Shut the fuck up and keep watch. She’s got the right blood flowing in her veins, she’ll be out of there soon.”

And as if I’ve foretold a prophecy, I see a gorgeous, long haired brunette in a tattered wedding dress, hurriedly rushing down the stairs.

I open my door, “Right, that’s us. Follow my lead.”

Franky and Chris both get out and as they join me, Franky whispers, “Ask first.”

The frazzled looking young lady stops in her tracks when she sees us—eyes wide with a defensive posture. The dress shows off her cleavage, the length gives me a good view of her smooth legs. I shouldn’t be thinking it in this moment, but I can’t help how attractive I find her. I put up my hand and say, “Jessi Pernell, would you please come with us?”

“Why?”

I try to sound reassuring, “There’s someone who wants to talk to you.”

She twitches uncertainly, shifting hesitantly like she wants to run, but she’s not sure.

I feel Chris step forward and sing under his breath, “She’s gonna run,” in that—I told you so—kind of way.

The instant he does it, Jessi bolts and I yell, “Grab her!”

Franky is the first to get a hold of her arm. She screams and takes a swing at him like a wild animal. He ducks but doesn’t strike back—I might have.

Chrissy takes her from behind in a bearhug and lifts her off her feet. She wriggles like a fish and calls out, “HELP ME! SOMEONE HELP!” And that’s when I see her friend at the top of the stairs, the one in the cheap purple dress that Chris mentioned.

“Go to the car and keep her calm,” I tell Chris, “I’ll handle this.”

I walk towards the girl in the purple dress. She looks even more panicked than Jessi did. She fumbles with her phone but I’m there before she can dial.

I calmly pull out three one-hundred-dollar-bills from my pocket and offer them to her, “You didn’t see anything. She’ll call you in a few hours and tell you she’s okay. There’s nothing to worry about.”

She stares at me in terror, so I move my jacket just enough so that she can see my gun. She takes the money and nods.

I head back to the car and see Frank seated next to Jessi with his 9mm pointed at her. Chris is in the passenger seat up front. It’s deathly quiet.

I get in, start the car and drive.

CHAPTER 2

She’s so beautiful. She reallydoeslook like a princess. She looks scared, but also fearless. Her shoes came off when she was struggling with Chris outside and she’s barefoot. I don’t like that I have to do this. I don’t want to. Not to her. “It’s okay, we’re not going to hurt you.”

I hope she believes me.

She stares back, mustering a look of hate. “That gun you’re holding would suggest otherwise.”

Chrissy turns around, “That’s so you’ll cooperate.”

“And if I don’t, you’ll shoot me?” She raises her brow, “How’s that not going to hurt me?”

I put my hand up to calm her, “I’m…we’re…not going to shoot you.”

“Then why hold the gun at all?”

“If I put it away, will you be cool?”
