“And you’ll get your wife to lay off.”
Nodding, Elfie agreed, “Yes.”
“Great.” Axle got to his feet. He pulled a 4x6 picture out of his back pocket and laid it carefully on Elfie’s desk. It was a picture of Elfie, Francine, and the three kids. “You can keep this. We have more.”
As Axle passed Elfie, he patted him on the shoulder. Then, he exited the office and made his way out of the building, smiling and waving at the various employees he came across. There would be rumors of Kirsh’s association with the Howlers by the end of the day.
Chapter thirty-three
Ruby
Afteramorningofpacking, Ruby was sent to the diner to have lunch with the girls, while Rebel and a group of the guys moved her furniture and boxes. She wasn’t about to fight them on it. If they wanted to do the heavy lifting, who was she to stop them?
Sipping her tea, while sitting at a table in the diner, Ruby listened as Kisy and Butterfly argued about whether or not Kisy should wear a black wedding dress. When Pixie offered she should also wear stilettos with it, Butterfly choked on her sip of pop.
Kisy was cackling so hard her face had turned red, and she couldn’t breathe. Which is why Ruby was startled when Kisy was suddenly on her feet and shouted, “Ordys! Welcome back, Fucker!”
Then there was a deep chuckle and a handsome man with dark brown hair and eyes, a killer muscular body, and golden-brown skin stepped up to the table.
“I was only gone for a few days, maybe a couple weeks, and I told you I would be back. Just had to pack up. Think your man will still be okay with a houseguest until I can find a permanent place to stay?”
“You need a place?” Ruby looked up at him. “I have a two-bedroom townhouse I’m looking to rent out.”
“And you might have an in with the property management company handling it,” Kisy said with a grin. She playfully elbowed him in the ribs. “Besides, do you really want to hear the…nightly noisesat our house?”
Ordys grinned. “That’s a good point.” He held out his hand to Ruby. When Ruby took it and gave it a professional shake, he said, “I’m Ordys.”
“Ruby… uh… Bri Cooke, but they call me… Ruby.” She cleared her throat. “Ruby is fine.”
As the other women giggled, Ordys gave a nod. “And which of the lovely gentlemen bikers granted you with that very appropriate name?”
That’s when Ruby realized how hot her cheeks felt.
“She’s with Rebel,” Kisy told him. Then she turned to face Ruby. “Ordys is a dragon shifter and champion to Raghnall, the God of…” Her brows furrowed together in concentration.
“Wisdom,” Ordys supplied.
Kisy snapped her fingers. “Yes! The God of Wisdom.”
Ruby had no idea what in the hell Kisy was talking about.Gods? Dragon shifters? There were dragon shifters?Had she stumbled into a fantasy novel? Well, apparently so. Her man could turn into a wolf. It may have been fantasy, but it was also reality, and her brain was having trouble reconciling those two facts.
“But don’t ask him for a ride. Ordys would give you one, but Rebel would probably act like Dragon about it and throw a tantrum about you merely asking.”
Butterfly snorted a laugh and turned away from them.
“God of Wisdom?” Ruby was staring at Kisy and Ordys.
Ordys looked down at Kisy. “You all didn’t explain the Gods to her?”
“Look here, Mister.” Kisy put her hands to her hips. “Things have been a little crazy around here, and we might have been busy. And honestly? That’s Rebel’s responsibility.”
“Facts,” Pixie blurted and took a drink of her water.
Butterfly had returned to the conversation and nodded. “But we really have been dealing with some serious stuff.”
“Yeah, I know. It’s part of the reason I was gone. Once I set up a permanent residence, I’ll be heading out of town for a bit to help with that.” When Kisy’s eyes narrowed in curiosity. He shook his head and chuckled. “You’re not peppering me with questions again.”
Ruby raised her hand. “Can I? Because I have a shit ton of them swirling in my brain.”
