“And don’t think we planned to leave you out,” Axle looked at Dorothy and scowled. “You think we don’t know what you tried to do when my dad and uncles finally let you know your ass would never be an Ol’ Lady? You think we don’t know about those shipments ofspecialtypillows you were sending and receiving from Indiana? We knew someone was giving those fuckers information for years, but we were having trouble figuring out how they knew so much about our clubs.”
“I wouldn’t do that!”
Axle raised a brow. “Really? I have to say I was a little surprised to find out that one of the fuckers who were killed in that tragic accident at their clubhouse was your biological child. I mean… wow. And that info probably would’ve died with him, but you see, not all their members died. No. And the one who survived had gained the confidences of the higher members. One of them got chatty when he was drinking, and he laid it all out. We didn’t know which woman in Warden’s Pass was the bio mom until we tracked down the birth certificate for the fucker. And there you were… in black and white.”
Keys turned the computer to show her the open birth certificate file.
Dorothy’s eyes widened, then they filled with tears. “That means nothing!”
“Hmm…” Skull tapped the tip of his finger to his chin. “I wonder what her friends down at the church would think about the fact that she had a kid and shipped him off to live with his biker dad who ran drugs?”
“I’m kinda curious if there are any leftover remnants of her drug running days in that hoarder’s paradise she calls a house. Bet it’s real tough to clean,” Dragon uttered. “I bet the PD would be curious, too.”
“Oh, most definitely,” Keys said and nodded. “Especially when they get an anonymous file full of proof of unaccounted for money in her accounts, and the pictures I found of her sitting on the lap of her biker lover while he was wearing his cut.”
“Jeffrey!” Dorothy stood and turned to look at her lover. “Are you just going to stand there and let them—“
“Shut the hell up, Dor, before you set them off.”
“Nowyou’re learning,“ Pike said in a cheery voice.
“I’m sure your best friend, Sharon, would also be interested in this picture,” Skull said and pointed to his phone, “since it’s her hubby you were boinking. Don’t forget about that.”
The older woman started to pout. When she realized not one man in the room gave one shit she was upset, she asked, “And I just have to back off?”
“Yup.” Keys shut his laptop and picked it up.
“By the way, Jeffrey,” Axle began as he headed for the door, “you’re gonna have to rein in your wife, too.”
Jeffrey gave a nod, and plopped back on the couch, defeated.
“We have a deal, Dorothy Jones?” Skull asked for clarification.
“Yes,” she said on a sob.
“Great. We’ll just hang onto the info in case you have a change of heart.”
After they parked on the side of the main building of Kirsh Inc, Axle told the others to wait outside for him. Pike started to argue, but Axle shut him down. His presence alone would be an interruption to the norm inside the plant. They weren’t there to cause a spectacle. They were there to relay information to Elfie Kirsh to get him to back the hell off.
The only way Pike agreed was if Axle had a call with Pike open on his phone the entire time. Sure, he could have used his Alpha voice and ended that argument, but he didn’t like to do that. Rolling his eyes, he called Pike on his phone and Pike muted his end. Axle carefully put his phone in the pocket of his cut and headed inside.
When Elfie entered his office fifteen minutes later, Axle was sitting in his desk chair with his booted feet up on Elfie’s desk, waiting for him. The man stopped just inside the doorway and stared.
“Well, hello, Elfie. How’s your wife? No, not Elsie. The other one.” Axle grinned. “Yeah, we know. We know about Francine. We also know about the three kids you had with her — Ricky, Elliot, and Louisa.”
Elfie quickly stepped inside and shut the door behind him. “Where did you find out about them? How?”
“That’s not important.” Axle shrugged and kept smiling. “What is important is what we can do with that information.”
“What do you plan to do with that information?”
“Nothing…” Axle dropped his feet to the floor. “As long as you leave the Howlers, the Claws, and anyone associated with us alone. Do you understand?”
Elfie swallowed hard. “Elsie can’t… find out.”
“Yeah.” Axle looked around. “This is a mighty fine business you set up for yourself. It would suck if you had to sell it off to pay her what’s owed to her as well as alimony.”
Elfie flinched. “Yes. I will lay off.”
