“I don’t knowyou, but I know him. Seems to me the words you are throwing at agood manmake you trash.”

“He is abiker,“ Elsie Kirsh hissed the last word like it was a curse word.

Ruby laughed. “Yes. Yes, he is. And what does that have to do with the content of his character?”

“They are criminals,” Elfie sputtered.

“Name one law they have broken.” She waited a moment, but when the Kirshes didn’t have an answer, she added, “The Howlers have done more for Warden’s Pass than the entire city council and the police force combined. In my opinion, you should be on your knees thanking them for the service they have provided to our town.”

As the older couple scoffed, Ruby turned on her heel, took Rebel’s hand, and dragged him down the walkway. Bitching about self-righteous assholes under her breath, she stomped down the path.

Rebel wanted to push her up against a tree and show her just how fucking hot it was that she’d defend him and his club that way, with her high-class, proper language. As she dragged him behind her, he settled for staring at her luscious ass and the way it swayed with every step.

“Stop staring at my ass, Rebel,” she ordered.

Rebel grinned. “I can’t help it. It’s mesmerizing.”

That did it. The tension was broken, Ruby burst out laughing.

Chapter eleven

Niles

Whenthewomanfromout of town asked Niles whether he’d seen the newscast and whether he was worried about shifters, he knew she wasn’t a friend of the Howlers. He watched the way she had moved through the diner to her table and her body language as she took a seat. She was stiff, controlled, like she kept her emotions locked down. Her mannerisms and way of speech sounded very military to him. If he worked things the right way, maybe he could use her skills to his advantage.

Niles had heard about the townsfolk who wanted to push the Howlers out of town. He talked to Reginald about meeting with them. They sounded like a group of people he wanted to spend time around. If anyone had a reason to want to get rid of the Howlers, it was Niles. They had stolen his family and moved them. Now, he was sure one of those asshole monsters was moving in on his woman and trying to take his place in his kids’ lives. That shit couldn’t fly.

After eating her lunch, the woman, Stella, had started asking questions of the people eating at the diner. When he heard her ask the person at the next table, he motioned her over.

Now, she was sitting across from him, and he was explaining that the shifters were dividing the town and how they split up his family. Sure, he left out some details, but he told her the important parts.

By the time he was done, they had exchanged numbers, and she had told him to give her a call if he heard anything else. He never did find out why exactly she was in town, but his gut was telling him she was about to be an important part in fucking with the Howlers.

Bri

When Rebel dropped her off at home, he walked her to her front door. Bri invited him inside, but he refused to go further than just inside her living room. That was a disappointment until he scrambled her brains with another make-out session.

She really wanted him to follow her up to her bedroom, but he insisted they wait. She almost pushed the issue until he mentioned wanting to get home to the boys to make sure they hadn’t burned his house down. Reluctantly, she nodded and let him walk out her front door.

After she watched him ride away, through the front window, she went upstairs to get ready for bed, thinking how sweet he was to wait on her front porch until he heard the lock engage. She washed her face and brushed her teeth before changing into her favorite set of pajamas — A loose tee and a pair of cotton shorts.

When she climbed into bed, she glanced over at the empty side and wished Rebel was there with her. Sure, she wanted them to finish what they started, but she also just wanted to cuddle with him while she slept. Bri suspected he would be an outstanding cuddler.

With a smile on her face, she grabbed her cell phone off of the side table and sent him a message.

Rebel

Rebel had just said goodnight to the boys and stepped into his bedroom, when his phone vibrated with a notification. Deciding to wait to remove his boots until he knew he didn’t need to go anywhere, he pulled his phone from the pocket of his cut and checked it, expecting it to be Axle or another one of his brothers. It was a text from Ruby.

>Since I don’t get any more sexy time with you tonight, which is your fault, I guess I’ll have to have sexy time with myself and take inspiration from my book boyfriend.<

A vision of her having sexy time with herself popped into his head, eliciting a groan from him. With a grin, he crossed the room to his bookshelf and pulled his favorite spicy book out. Quickly flipping to his favorite sex scene, he found the page he wanted from a certain section and took a picture of it. Then, he sent her a text along with the picture.

>Fuck, Ruby. Along with the visual you just caused, I’ll be using this for inspiration during the sexy times I’m about to have with myself.<

After pressing send, he bent down and removed his boots. Then, he hung his cut on the hook by his closet door. Telling himself he couldn’t get back on his bike and go back to her house, he forced himself to get undressed and climb into bed. He glanced at the empty side of the bed and sighed. What he wouldn’t give to have her there for him to wrap in his arms and hold her while they slept.

Yeah, he was totally gone for this woman, and she didn’t even know it yet.
