He turned to where she was pointing and saw a shot of him that looked like it was taken in the gym. He wasn’t looking at the camera but rather at someone else, though he was facing the camera. His facial expression was serious and he was assuming he was training someone when she’d snuck the shot.

“When did you take that?”

“After the first time we slept together. The next time I was at the gym. I’d told Raina then and I just wanted to have one to look at when I worked. Plus I wanted to brag.”

“That part I believe,” he said.

“Believe both parts,” she said. “It’s true. I like looking at your picture when I’m working. Are you going to tell me you don’t have a picture of me on your phone? I know you don’t in your office.”

He could lie, but he wouldn’t. “You know I’ve got pictures of you. We’ve taken them together.”

She liked to take selfies now and again and he indulged her, but the truth was he did like to look at them smiling and laughing together to remind him that it was real and not something he never thought he’d have.

“That isn’t what I meant and you know it. Do you have a picture that you snuck of me without me knowing?”

“I might have a few,” he said.

“Let me see them,” she said, reaching for him while she laughed.

“Nope,” he said. “Not here.”

“I’ll show you mine if you show me yours.”

“Maybe I should go somewhere else,” Kara Fierce said outside of Megan’s door.

“Don’t be embarrassed, Jonah,” Megan said. “Kara has kids. She understands.”

He rolled his eyes. He couldn’t believe she was talking like this to her boss but then remembered it was her personality with those she felt the most comfortable with.

“I do have kids as my twins remind me daily when they yell my name. And my husband when he tries to grab me in the office too.”

“See,” Megan said. “Did you need something? You’re supposed to be downstairs.”

“I left my phone in the office and I was coming to get it in case the sitter needs me. Drake has his, but it’s always the mother that is called. I saw the light on and thought you left it on.”

“Nope,” Megan said. “Just showing Jonah my office and the hot pictures of him in it.”

“They are pretty sweet,” Kara said, laughing. “You should hear all the other girls talking about you, Jonah.”

Great, now he was being double-teamed.

“I love when you blush,” Megan said. “Let’s go to the party and get some food. You’ll have fun tonight. I promise.”

He wasn’t so sure of that, but hours later he found he was socializing with a lot of people. Not just Raina and Cody, but many of the other Fierces that worked here had come over to talk to him. He knew not everyone was here because they didn’t work for the firm. Not that the party wasn’t extended to them, but if he could have avoided this night he might have too.

There was part of him that just wanted to spend it with Megan at his place and talk more about the house hunt. Maybe even look online.

“I’ll go get us another drink,” Megan said. “Only an hour left before the ball drops.”

He was left alone while Megan moved to the bar. He’d had two beers in the four hours they’d been here. He almost told her to get him something else, but he saw her come back with soda and a beer for him, so one of them was good enough to drive.

He would be too but would never take the chance if he got stopped for any reason.

“How is Mom’s favorite kid doing?”

He turned to see Raina standing there. “What does that mean?”

“She was so happy last week when you said you were going to start looking for houses I thought she was going to jump up and kiss you before she started to cry.”
