“The deck works,” he said, grabbing Megan’s hand and yanking her out there with him.

They got outside and she was laughing. “Wow. What was that about? And you’re holding that beer like it’s a bottle of milk you haven’t had in hours and need it to calm you down.”

He narrowed his eyes at her. “You’re the wiseass now.”

She moved closer to him and leaned up to kiss him. “You like my ass. Wise or not.”

“I do,” he said, his hand cupping her, but she jumped back fast when his brother walked out onto the deck with a beer in his hand.

“All right, you two. Break it up,” Trent said. “No reason to get the rest of us jealous.”

“Everyone has someone but you,” his mother said to Trent. “Maybe you need some help.”

“Don’t even think about it,” Trent said. “I don’t need help finding anyone.”

“That’s right,” Jonah said. “Don’t think I don’t know you were talking to the Fierces. Some of us are good on our own.”

“Really?” Trent said. “Considering your girlfriend works for them, do you think you are good on your own?”

He looked at Megan and saw her face flush this time. “So? I haven’t seen them since the wedding. With Cody and Raina they were spending time trying to put them in the same places at once. We didn’t need that, right?”

“Nope,” she said. “I came to you, not the other way around.”

There was a lot of laughter there and he couldn’t dispute those words. “Because I’m irresistible.”

“Now you’re just making things up,” Raina said. “You got her, that’s enough.”

Yeah, he did have her and he wanted to keep her. So that meant he was damn well going to try to put his time in more than he was.

“What am I going to do?”Megan asked Raina a few hours later. The two of them were in the kitchen washing up the plates from dinner and kicked everyone else out.

“About what?” Raina asked.

“Jonah. You heard what he said about the Fierces.”

“And you didn’t lie,” Raina said. “You went to him.”

“But I did it when they pushed me,” she said.

Raina turned and looked at her. “Stop. They don’t know Jonah. They know you. They talked to you and gave you the same suggestions that they might give to someone else. It’s not like they called my mother after and gave her an update.”

She let out a breath. “I guess when you put it that way. Still, I feel bad. Should I say something to him?”

“That is up to you,” Raina said. “I just don’t see where it’s that big of a deal if you ask me.”

“Maybe not. I might not have thought much of it at all if he didn’t just sound adamant about it.”

“Trust me. I know my brother. That is just Jonah being Jonah right now with my mother. Nothing more.”

She went back to rinsing the dishes to put in the dishwasher. “Are you sure?”

“Positive. Why are you so worked up over it? Normally something like that wouldn’t bother you.”

“I just don’t want to do anything wrong.”

“You loooooove my brother, don’t you?”
