“Friends,” I say.
“I can do that,” he tells me.
I smile, and we both get up at the same time. There are still french fries left, but they no longer matter. I give him a hug, and for the first time I don’t feel any kind of romantic connection to him at all. No longing, no wishing for more. Just a hug between two friends.
“I’ll see you around,” I tell him.
“See you around,” he says.
And with that, he leaves.
I don’t waste any time. I have been waiting all day for this moment, and now that I did the hard part, I can get to the much, much better part. I call an Uber, and immediately head to the guys’ apartment. It’s Thursday, so I know they’re not going to have practice.
So the odds are in my favor that they are all going to be home.
I hop out of the Uber and head straight inside, hardly able to keep myself from running to get to their door.
Once I’m there, I stand up taller, realizing I should have taken the time to freshen up before I came over. But then, I remember that I just told Johnny that one of the things I love about these guys is the fact that they loved me before I was all glamorous. I can be a wallflower, and they still think I’m beautiful.
I knock on the door, donning my brightest smile as Zach opens it.
“What do you want?” he asks.
“Can I come in for a second?” I ask. “I need to talk to you. All of you, hopefully.”
“Tay, Cory, we have company,” Zach calls out over his shoulder. “I hope you make this fast.”
“Thank you,” I tell him.
I wait for all three to be in the living room and paying attention to me, and I smile.
“I just wanted to tell you guys I made my decision,” I say.
“What?” Zach asks.
“I told Johnny the only thing we will ever be is friends,” I tell him. “What’s more is that I told him that I fell for you three, and that’s how it’s going to be.”
“You told him that?” Cory asks in shock, and I nod with an even bigger smile.
“I don’t want to hide it. I am in love with you guys, and I want the world to know,” I say.
“Do you think that’s going to cause us any issues with getting into the NHL?” Taylor asks Zach, and Zach shakes his head.
“I’m sure there’s already rumors going around anyway, and who are we to confirm or deny?” He walks over to me with a smirk on his face as he does, and my body instantly responds.
He’s pulling on my shirt, and in a flash he has it up and over my head, then drops it on the floor.
I close my eyes and stand on the tips of my toes, my lips finding his.
I feel the hands of Taylor and Cory on my body, pulling at my clothes.
I know what’s about to happen, and I feel totally at peace. No more guilt, no more worry. No more wondering if I’ve made the right choice. These are my guys, and I am happy.
This might not be the most conventional relationship in the world, but who cares about that?
We’re happy, and that’s all that matters.
As long as I have my guys, I’ll be okay.
