“So, we gonna talk about last night?” he finally said once we were in the car on the way to his parents’ house.

“What would you like to talk about?” My eyes cut to his.

He cocked his head.

“Do you have specific questions?” I asked feeling more awkward than ever.

He stifled a smile, likely enjoying watching me squirm. “No, just an overall observation.”

“It was nice,” I said.

“Nice?” he asked.

“Very nice?” I asked, checking if that was what he wanted me to say.

“Very nice?” he asked, bemused.

“Look, you’re not making this easy,” I said.

“What?”

“Being in this small space with you after what we did,” I snapped.

He stifled a smile. “And why’s that?”

“Because it’s making me uncomfortable.”

“You never have to be uncomfortable with me,” he said.

“You weren’t Mr. Motormouth this morning either,” I argued.

“I’m worried about today.”

Now I felt ridiculous. I’d been making this about me when he was nervous about his own situation. “Why didn’t you just tell me that? I thought you were regretting last night.”

“Why would I regret last night?” he asked, confused.

I shrugged. “I don’t know.”

He rolled his eyes. “Girls.”

I rolled mine. “Spirits.”

He smiled and all was right in the world again. “So, what’s the plan for today?”

“Tell your parents who I am and what I can do.”

He nodded, but he didn’t appear too confident that this would actually work.

We pulled up in front of his home a short time later. Sue’s van and two dark sedans were in the driveway.

“Those are my parents’ cars,” he explained.

I parked in front of the house, killing the engine and staring at the house. “Please let this work,” I said before pushing open my door and meeting Kyler on the sidewalk. Side by side, we made our way up the walkway.

“You got this, Nora. I believe in you.”

“Yeah, let’s hope your parents do too,” I muttered as I climbed the steps and rang the doorbell. Like the last time, I could hear the loud chime echo inside.
