“Don’t even,” Hawk said, getting to his feet. “What are you doing in here?”
“Somebody wanted to play charades, and Sam sent me for a pen and some paper to keep score.” Jude slid open the middle drawer and took out what he needed before sliding it shut again. “Come on.” He nudged Hawk toward the door. “Sam locks up his stuff like Fort Knox.”
“You don’t happen to know where he keeps the keys, do you?” Hawk asked.
“No idea.”
Hawk would just have to return later that night with his picks.
Following Jude back to the patio, he settled down again beside him on the lounge, this time leaving slightly less room between them than before.
CHAPTER SEVENTEEN
Jude
Eliza was acting out a movie, but fuck all if Jude could figure out what it was. Glancing at Hawk, he almost laughed aloud at the horrified look on his face. Eliza had flung her head back and was pressing her wrist to her forehead like a damsel in distress, which made her tits jut out beneath the flimsy crocheted bathing suit.
“Gone With the Wind,” someone guessed.
“How early is too early to bow out of this and go to our room?” Hawk whispered in Jude’s ear.
“What, you’re not enjoying the view?” Jude whispered back.
Hawk made a face. “Seriously?”
“We probably should go to bed soon. Unless you want to stick around for the raunchy stuff,” Jude said.
“Do I want to know?”
“At Sam’s parties, an orgy isn’t completely out of the question.”
“We’re out of here, then,” Hawk said decisively, sliding off the chair and lending Jude a hand up just as Gabriel shouted, “Fuck this game, let’s skinny dip!”
“But nobody’s guessed my movie!” Eliza said, pouting her big lower lip.
“The Happy Hooker,” Hawk called out, making Jude take a misstep while getting out of the chair. He toppled into Hawk, who grabbed him around the waist.
“No, it wasMy Fair Lady!” Eliza said crossly.
Jude didn’t dare look at Hawk in that moment, or he knew he’d lose it.
A couple of guests had already shed their bathing suits and were jumping into the heated pool.
“Are those people doing cocaine?” Hawk asked, passing a group gathered around the table in the great room snorting lines.
“Looks like it,” Jude said.
“Come on.” Taking Jude by the hand, Hawk tugged him toward the stairs.
Unfortunately, Sam had noticed them leaving and followed them inside. “You two going to bed already? The night is young!”
Pausing on their way up the stairs, Hawk said, “We’re going to have our own party in bed. We might be down later, if Jude can still walk.”
Jude looked at him incredulously, but before he could say anything, Hawk dragged him up the last few stairs.
“Was that really necessary?” Jude asked when they were inside their room with the door closed.
“Yes, I couldn’t have stood staying out there a minute longer.” Hawk threw himself onto his back on the big bed. He started laughing. “My Fair Lady? Really?”
