I pull away with a smirk…because she didn’t really think this was the end.

Alanna enters the room. “Shall we go? The doctors will be here soon.”

Luna’s eyes widen, not understanding what’s going on, and she couldn’t, because I needed both her and Alanna blind.

Standing, I turn to Alanna, smiling sweetly. “Yes. Let’s go home.”

Alanna is none the wiser when I reach into my pocket and then extend my hand. She accepts, which is her downfall because in a split second, I inject the syringe which I had hidden in my pocket into her neck.

She gasps, totally surprised, before collapsing into my arms. I catch her and gently place her on the floor.

All the while, Luna looks on, completely stunned. “What’s going on?”

“You didn’t think it was done, did you?”

Luna is speechless as I begin unfastening the straps around her. When she’s free, I help her off the table, only for her to slap my cheek.

I deserved that.

“Let me make it up to you,” I say, bending down and picking up Alanna and placing her on the table.

“What did you give her?”

“Something to knock her out for a little while and make her hallucinate like she’s on the best LSD.” I should know. She once gave it to me. It was her error telling me what drugs did what.

“So what is this?” Luna asks, needing answers.

“This is plan B,” I reply, strapping Alanna to the table. “There was no way I would be standing back and watching you ruin your life. No one would believe us. This place, Alanna, they’re fucking bulletproof. We wouldn’t win doing it your way. But we will my way.”

“And what is your way?”

I smirk, ensuring Alanna is strapped in tight. “We both gave Alanna what she so desperately wanted—love. And that love earned her trust. As I see it, we take that away from her…and we make sure it hurts, really, really bad.”

Luna’s mouth parts when I walk over to the cart with medical tools and reach for a scalpel.

“What about Parkfields? We can’t leave them here.”

“And we won’t. What’s a little arson to cover a crime?”

The entire time, I had a plan, and that plan was to give Alanna what she wanted—love.

I promised her the world, only to take it from her. I professed my love for her because Luna’s will is still in her name, and with no next of kin, the state, or rather, Parkfields would reap the rewards.

My very PDA is enough for those to believe Alanna left everything to me and not question it when I say she died in the fire, trying to save the place she so loved. Daddy’s body will also be among the dead.

“Alanna may go down a hero, but no one believes the bad guys. No one believes the people who they deem crazy. They think we’re crazy, then let’s show them crazy.”

“Why didn’t you tell me this? This entire time, I thought you didn’t…love me.”

“Baby”—I cup the back of her head and draw her forehead to mine—“I’ve done all of this because I love you…with every beat of my heart. If I told you, would you have agreed to it?”

She shakes her head slowly.

“I’ve got you, baby. Always. I just want to make sure you’re okay with this. There’s no turning back.”

Luna sighs softly. “She took away my heart…so it only seems fitting…that I take away hers.”

Her bloodlust gets me hard, and I realize that Luna and I are one of the same. You can’t survive what we have and not be a little bruised around the edges.
