Page 79 of The Consigliere
They stare at me with cold fury, and I nod. “He was into some dark lord shit and kidnapped Abi and I went after her and hung him from his depraved neck. Diana told me where to find him and got us into the fucking house of hell, but slipped away when shit got real.”
“Diana helped you to kill Mario?”
Dom looks shocked and Leo leans back in his seat with a low, “Fuck me.”
For a second, we let the information sink in and then I tell them the reason they’re here in the first place.
“The problem is, Sam Bachini wasn’t Mario’s father. He was adopted.”
“And?” Leo stares at me hard and I growl, “That pleasure belongs to Carlos Matasso.”
“Fuck!” Dom yells and Leo’s eyes glisten with rage as he shakes his head slowly before saying with a low growl. “Then it’s even more important to change direction.”
“What do you mean?” We stare at him expectantly, and he leans back and regards us through his usual emotionless eyes.
“We change the will and kill Matasso before he even knows we’re on to him.”
“What with? Harry fucking Potter’s cloak of invisibility?”
Dom scoffs because it’s impossible to get anywhere near Carlos Matasso, and we all know that.
Leo peers over at Dom and growls, “Flora.”
Dom’s head snaps up and his eyes narrow. “What about her?”
“Find out what she knows about the Matassos. She lived with them long enough; she must be able to tell us something. Spread the word around people you trust not to pass on the information and find out every piece of intelligence you have.”
He glances over at me. “Same for you. Get your consigliere onto it and I’ll do the same. We need as much information as possible to bring that bastard down.”
“We have two fucking days before that fucking will is read.” I say with disgust and Leo shrugs. “I have a plan that will delay that from happening.”
“How?” We stare at him with interest, and he grins, telling me my brother has already prepared for this and he says softly, “Ernest Bagway is currently on vacation. He is due to land tomorrow morning and his cab will be making a detour.”
“That’s your plan. Lock up the fucking lawyer?” I shake my head.
“It will buy us some time because when he reads that will, it won’t be the one our dear father signed.”
“You think Ernest Bagway will accept that shit? That man is so straight we would be under investigation in no time.”
“You say he’s straight. I disagree,”
Leo shrugs. “I haven’t been sitting at home waiting for shit to get real. I’ve been working on this twenty-four seven and I happen to know our father’s lawyer is not as pure as he makes out.”
“What have you got on him?”
I’m mildly interested, and Leo grins. “Rather a lot as it happens and I’m certain he will turn a blind eye to this one indiscretion in return for my silence because it’s that or life imprisonment.”
“Wow, what’s the fucker done?”
Leo just smiles. “Things no man wants to admit in prison. Ernest Bagway is about to learn a valuable lesson and the payment will be his silence in return for ours.”
I nod. “But that doesn’t mean we’re off the hook with Matasso. I’m guessing he already knows that I murdered his son and is already planning retribution.”
Leo shrugs. “It’s doubtful he will do anything until the will is read. Once he has the Ortega mafia, he will strike, but only then. The delay means we have longer to react to that and every man has an Achilles heel.”
“Then I hope you’ve fucking found his.” I say with a sigh and Leo nods, looking quite smug for once, making us stare at him expectantly.
“There is one woman who hates him more than we do, and I know where she is hiding.”
