“Only if she isn’t interested in me,” he adds with a smirk. Then his face drops. “Maybe she’s not interested in me, remember her photo in the folio? She looked like she would rather be with anyone else than me.”

“Isn’t that the point so we can be together, and she can do whoever she wants?” I ask him.

“That was before I noticed the lady boner she was throwing your way,” he adds.

“You’re seriously jealous?”

Auggie frowns. “I don’t know how I feel,” he tells me honestly.

“Okay, then what about the other women we met tonight? Did any of them feel right to you?”

“No, they all seemed too much, and I didn’t like that all their attention was on me. I think they might get jealous if I spend time with you.” He shrugs.

This man is frustrating as hell. “Let me get this right, you don’t like the women who paid you too much attention and you’re unhappy with the woman that didn’t pay you enough attention?” I question him.

“I’m a complicated man, you know that.” Auggie chuckles, slapping his hand against my chest.

“You’re lucky I love you,” I say, glaring at him.

The sound of a branch cracking in the silence has us pulling apart quickly and pausing in the darkness. The outline of a figure, back to us, strolls ahead, then she stops. Her phone lights up, illuminating her face—Princess Rosalie.

What is she doing out here?Did she come to seek us out?Why does that thought thrill me?

Auggie’s fingers dig into my shoulder. “Things just got interesting.” Amusement laces his tone, and I can see mischief twinkling in his eyes. “You need to find out what she’s thinking?”

“Me? Shouldn’t it be you? She’s going to be your wife.”

Auggie rolls his eyes at me.

“If you’re pulling the bodyguard card, I’ll punch you,” I tell him.

“Please, Grey,” he pleads.

“What am I supposed to say to her?” I ask him.

“Ask her what she thinks of me?”

“Like she is going to be honest,” I say, shaking my head at him.

Auggie’s brows pull together. “You’re right. She’s desperate, she will say whatever she needs to make me choose her.” He muses over his inner thoughts about his conundrum. “Flirt with her then.”

“I’m not going to flirt with a potential wife for you,” I tell him. Has he lost his mind? Doesn’t matter if I find her attractive or not.

“You’ve done it before.” Auggie pouts.

When we are playing with women to have sex with not life partners.

“Auggie.”

“You’re right. Just have a conversation with her. See where her head is at over the arrangement. It might help us narrow down the options.”

I lean forward and give him a kiss before heading over to where Rosalie is. Turning back one last time, I notice Auggie has disappeared into the darkness, but I know he isn’t far away.

Rosalie is so lost in whatever she’s doing on her phone that she doesn’t hear me walk up behind her.

“It’s not safe for you to be wandering the gardens at night alone,” I warn her.

She jumps at my voice, but doesn’t make a sound as she slowly turns around.
