Not yet.He can’t be fucking serious.

I yank my hand out of his hold. “If you don’t want to sleep with me, then why the fuck—”

“Hold up, now,” he cuts in, a smirk on his face. “I never said I didn’t want to.” He brushes the hair away from my shoulder, his fingertips leaving goosebumps on my skin as they trail across my collarbone then down to the swell of my breast. “Trust me, Peach, I really want to.”

I grab him by the belt and tug him closer. “Well, there’s no need to hold out on my account, handsome.”

“Parker...” I ignore the warning in his tone and unhook his belt, slowly beginning to kneel in front of him, my stare locked on his. “Stop!” Embarrassment heats my veins as he grabs my shoulders and pulls me back to my feet. His hands cup my face, his eyes soft as they search mine. “I’m sorry. I just... not tonight.”

Fuck this and fuck him.

I pull out of his hold and walk over to grab my robe from the chair by my bed without so much as a word. His eyes follow my every movement as I slip it on and stroll back across the room, heating my skin all the way to the door.

He lets out a defeated sigh when I yank it open. “What are you doing?”

I flick my eyes over to him, keeping a bored expression on my face. “Showing you out.”

He chuckles, his head shaking as he buckles his belt and buttons his shirt. His steps are deliberately slow as he makes his way over to me, an annoying smirk on his face.

He stops in front of me and leans down to place a kiss on my cheek before whispering in my ear, “This is far from over, Peach.”

Elias

Grace’s laughterbrings a smile to my face, my heart swelling as she happily plays with her friends. I’ll be one tired son of a bitch tonight, but nothing could keep me from being here with her today.

My eyes roam across the playground to Parker. She’s standing next to Josie, though she’s clearly still giving her the cold shoulder—her arms crossed as she silently stares ahead. It was obvious that Josie didn’t tell Parker I’d be here today. I think maybe she wanted her best friend to feel a little off balance with my arrival. She wanted her guard to be down. It worked, too.

There was fear and excitement swirling in her hazel eyes as they locked on me. Her breath hitched when I leaned in close, her body quivering at my declaration.

Her stare flickers to me as I walk over, like she’d been completely aware of me the entire time. I half expect her to make a run for it, but her feet stay planted. Josie, however, quietly slips away, leaving the two of us alone as I step up next to Parker.

“So... you and me, Saturday night? We can go somewhere and have a few drinks, maybe do a little dancing. What do you say, Peach?”

I’ve never been one for chasing a woman. Not even in my younger days. But I am a man who goes after what he wants, and I want her.

She barks out a laugh. “It’s not just a no for me, it’s a hell no. I don’t read books without a happy ending, and I’m not about to go on a date without one either.”

Turning Parker down after our first date wasn’t easy. It had been years since I'd had sex. I was dying to bury myself inside her, to fuck her until she couldn’t walk straight. But my gut was telling me I’d never see her again if we slept together that night. And I didn’t want that to happen. For the first time in a long time, it felt like I had something to look forward to, something I was excited about—Parker.

After she kicked me out on my ass, I decided it was for the best. Parker wasn’t the kind of woman you could fuck and simply forget about the next day. But my head wasn’t right yet. I wasn’t ready for anything real. I spent months trying to figure my shit out, going on bad date after bad date before I called Josie to ask for Parker’s number. She warned me that pursuing her best friend wouldn’t be easy, but that was a slight understatement.

I let my fingertips feather down her back, leaning down to whisper in her ear. “Are you saying you’re only interested in my cock?”

Her eyes darken as she turns to meet my gaze, her mouth dangerously close to mine. “I’m saying I’m not interested at all.”

I tilt my head, my lips curving into a cocky smile. “Yeah, you are.”

“Are you always so sure of yourself?”

“Do you always act like a stubborn child?” I counter. “I think you need a lesson in patience.”

She scoffs, her stare briefly flickering to my lips. “Oh, yeah? And you think you’re going to be the one to teach me?”

“If you’re a good girl, I’ll show you just how amazing a little delayed gratification can be.”

“And how, exactly, do you plan to do that?” Her question is breathy, needy.

“By bringing you to the brink of oblivion.” I lean in closer again, letting my cheek brush against hers as my lips find the shell of her ear. “I’ll make you feel like every nerve in your body is on the cusp of erupting with pleasure.” My whispered words cause her to suck in a ragged breath. “Then I’ll walk it back, let you ride that wave over and over again. And when I finally let you crash onto the shore, you’ll understand why the wait is the best part.” I run my nose down the curve of her neck as I pull away, inhaling the intoxicating scent of peaches and cream.
