“Well, maybe consider consulting her in her own safety. She’s not your personal property to decide where she goes or who she sees.”
My expression must have amused her because she laughed.
“Yes, I know it’s hard when you think you know everything. But take it from someone kept perpetually in the dark. Eventually, the curtains are yanked open, and the light is blinding. You can’t avoid all the pain in life, you can only arm yourself for it.”
“She shouldn’t—”
“Life isn’t fair.” Three words, so much meaning. “Life hasneverbeen fair. You don’t get what you deserve. You get what you negotiate and fight for. Don’t make her fight you to get what she needs. She will always have my first loyalty. Do I know more than I’m telling you? Yes. Will I tell you? Not without a damn good reason.”
Fuck.
“Learn to listen to her. Not just hear her, but actuallylistento what she tells you and how she tells you. If you love your sister as much as I see in your eyes…do not ever let the Sharpes near her again.Anyof them.”
I frowned.
“Don’t trust them, Pretty Boy. Not her mother, her father, or her uncle. None.”
I straightened at that warning; the slow, simmering anger in the pit of my stomach went volcanic. The whole family? Why?
“I can’t give you any other answers,” Mayhem told me, her gaze fixed on mine. “Except, I’m going to take care of setting up some accounts as soon as I get back. My trust fund is extensive, but much of it is locked up. Grandfather will help, and I can put aside an account for you and Em…”
“I don’t want your money.”
She shrugged one shoulder, before stepping beneath the spray to rinse off, including her hair. “I don’t care. It’s not about you or what you can and can’t do for yourself or for her…”
I narrowed my eyes as she shut off the water. Reaching for a towel, I held it open for her and stepped to meet her as she climbed out of the shower. The warm steam and sweet scent of her sent lust to cleave through my earlier anger and annoyance.
“Then what is it about?” I asked, meeting her gaze. “Ivy?”
“Yes,” she admitted. “That’s part of it. I want to know she’s safe and has what she needs. Accounts and access to funds are vital to that.”
Wrapping the towel around her, I tugged her to me. I didn’t give a damn about the water soaking my shirt or how flushed her face was as she peered up at me. I cared about feeling her. I cared about sinking into her and making her scream over and over.
“Okay.”
“And…I’m leaving soon. So, it’s better to take care of it now before—”
I didn’t hear the rest of that statement. My brain snapped off when she saidleaving.
What? “No,” I told her. “You don’t get to do that.”
“Pretty Boy…”
I fisted the towel and kept her near me before dipping my head. “I said no, Mayhem. You stay here where I can keep you safe.” Then I slammed my mouth down on hers. If she left…
No, I wouldn’t allow it.
Her groan shattered my control as she looped her arms around my neck and I picked her up. I wasn’t going to argue with her. Just fuck her until she couldn’t walk.
Then fuck her some more if I had to.
Mayhemcouldn’tleave.
ChapterFifteen
LAINEY
The wall was almost too cold against my nipples, but a welcome relief to my heat-flushed body as Pretty Boy rocked into me. He had my hands trapped on the wall with one of his wrapped around my wrists. The heavy weight of his cock slamming into me was everything I could, and did, want.
