Groaning, I took a step back. “Holly, we need to talk.”
“Can’t baby,” she said, walking away. “I’m late for work. Come by later tonight. I bought some new lingerie I want to model for you!”
Before I could utter another word, the woman turned the corner.
Fuck.
Trying to nail her ass down was like trying to nail Jell-O to a fucking tree!
Turning back around, I came to a complete halt as Beth stood on the sidewalk, glaring at me.
Sighing, I moaned, “I know. I’m trying to fix it.”
“Try harder,” she huffed, before storming back into her shop when I heard laughter coming from across the street, only to find Bailey doubled over laughing her ass off.
Fuck. My. Life.
Chapter Ten
Sarah
That lying, two-timing, piece of horseshit!
I can’t believe I gave him my virginity.
How stupid could I be? I should have known better.
I knew better. I heard all the rumors.
Hell, there wasn’t a person in town who didn’t know about Cord ‘Gunner’ Montclair’s sex life.
It was legendary!
The man had a woman for every damn day of the week. He prided himself on his ability to service the women of Rosewood and the surrounding towns. And I just became another notch in his belt.
God, I’m so stupid.
“You’re not stupid, Sarah,” Scribe said, sliding a glass of sweet tea my way. “So, what brings you to the bowling alley this early in the morning, Darlin’?”
“It doesn’t matter,” I whispered.
When I saw Gunner arriving with Holly last night, I didn’t know what to think. I knew she was one of his girls, but after what we did and what he said, I wanted to believe him.
However, when the minutes turned into an hour, it didn’t take a genius to know what he was doing with her, and when he walked out of her house an hour later with a huge smile on his face, he confirmed my suspicions.
After realizing he played me to get what he wanted, I knew there was no way I could stand to look at him again. He was now dead to me. The only problem I foresaw was that I worked at my mom’s shop, and he frequented the place often, so did the rest of the brothers.
“Come on, Darlin’, talk to me,” Scribe smiled, leaning over the bar. “Tell Scribe what the problem is and I’ll help you fix it.”
I looked at the handsome man and asked, “Really? You can turn back time and stop me from giving my virginity away to the man whore of Rosewood?”
Scribe slowly stood and growled, “What did you just say?”
“Never mind,” I sighed, getting to my feet. “I need to go. Thanks for the tea, Scribe.”
Reaching for my backpack, I had just taken two steps when Scribe grabbed my arm. “Sarah, wait a minute.”
“Why?”
