Me: Why did you dye his hair?
Venom: Bastard hid my birth control pills!
I chuckled at that.
Me: Guess you better not fuck King until you find them, then.
Venom: HA! Fat chance of that. I need my daily dose of orgasmic bliss, or I get crabby.
Me: Thought crabby was your default setting.
Venom: You seriously want to start something with me, Ditch Digger?
Me: Try his van. He hides everything in there.
Venom: Thanks. And you had better watch yourself. I think Holly knows something. She looked pissed.
Fuck.
Pocketing my phone, I stood there watching the young woman who had literally just turned my world upside down, picturing her in my life. Really, in my life.
I could hear her laughter, see her smiles, feel her hugs, taste her kisses. The thought of seeing and doing all those things for years to come didn’t make me cringe like I thought it would.
In fact, part of me looked forward to what life could be like with Sarah if I went down the unknown road.
Yeah, she was young.
A lot younger than me, but age was just a number...right?
I never considered myself a one-woman man, but watching Sarah having fun, being herself, without a care in the world, I wanted to know more about her. I wanted to know her likes and dislikes. What made her happy? What were her dreams for the future? Did she see herself with an older man? Would she be happy with someone like me?
From the second we met, subconsciously, I knew what I was going to do. But I did the right thing and waited for her to come of age. I agreed with the others and stepped back like a gentleman. The only gentlemanly thing I’ve ever done in my life and the last.
Because the second she was legal, all bets were off.
I understood why certain people in my life moved heaven and earth to keep us apart. A small part of me agreed. Sarah needed to grow up, see the world and experience life.
However, the second fate intervened, and I saw her walking out of that lake, naked as the day she was born, nothing, and I mean nothing, was going to stop me from claiming her.
Claim her?
Where the hell did that come from?
“What the hell are you doing here?”
Snapping my head towards hers, I smiled. “Watching a beautiful woman work on my bike.”
“Your bike?”
Walking down the steps, I nodded. “This is my house, babydoll.”
“Well damn,” she muttered. “Thought this place was Scribe’s.”
“Gotta say, doll, I sure love the way you move.”
Sarah narrowed her eyes. “Go away,Gunner. I’m mad at you.”
“I heard. Maybe I can turn that frown upside down,” I said, wiggling my eyebrows as I reached for her, pulling her towards me.
