“Okay. When is that?”

“Um,” she said, placing her head in her hand as she looked at me. “I’m pretty regular, so if my days are correct, I should start in the next week.”

Reaching for my phone, I brought up my calendar and asked, “So, you can test this Friday, maybe?”

Sarah shrugged. “Not sure. It’s not like I’ve taken a pregnancy test before, Gunner. Honestly, it would be better if I went to the clinic, and they ran a blood test.”

“The same clinic your parents and the whole damn town uses. I think not. The second you walk in there and ask for a pregnancy test, the whole town is gonna know.”

“True, but they wouldn’t know it’s yours.”

I narrowed my eyes. “Ain’t no one else claiming that baby but me, Babydoll. I don’t share well with others.”

“Remind me again who you were with the night before me? And whose house you were at just hours after fucking me at the lake?”

I froze.

“Look Gunner, I know you’ve been seeing Holly for a while now. I get it. You two have history. If you can’t handle this, I understand. Now would be the time to let me know.”

Reaching for her hand, I brought it to my lips and said, “I’m not going anywhere Babydoll. Not now. Not ever.”

“We’ll see,” she whispered, removing her hand, getting to her feet. I watched as she walked around the living room, looking at nothing as she nibbled on her thumbnail. I noticed she did that a lot when she was nervous. Only I couldn’t figure out why she was worried. She wasn’t the one with a shotgun with her name on it.

“Gunner?”

“Yeah, Babydoll?”

“I can’t go home.”

“What do you mean?”

“I can’t lie to my parents. I mean I can, I have before, but this is different. The second I go home, they will know. Besides, how long before others find out?”

She had a point.

With Pyro, Bailey, Scribe and now Sugar in the loop, keeping our dilemma a secret was going to be nearly impossible. I was about to tell her about the others when I heard a vehicle pull into the drive. Getting to my feet, I checked to see who it was, and cursed. “You’ve got to be kidding me!”

“Who is it?”

“It’s your dad!”

The second I mentioned her father, Sarah hurdled the couch like an Olympic pro, running from the room as if her ass was on fire, leaving me to deal with the former Marine Sniper all by myself.

“Sarah!” I whispered. “Get back here. You can’t leave me alone with him!”

“I can’t handle the stress!” she whispered loudly back. “It’s not good for the baby!”

“We don’t even know if you’re pregnant!”

“Whatev!” I heard her say, right before a door slammed shut.

I was going to spank her little ass!

Shaking my head, I opened the door to find Mike glaring at me.

“Uh, hey,Mike. What can I do for you?”

Instead of answering me, Mike pushed past me and walked in as if he owned the damn place. Now, since I built it with my own two hands, I knew that was impossible. But I didn’t mention that to him. Nope. The angry Marine Sniper could do what he wanted at the moment as long as he didn’t find his daughter hiding in one of my rooms.
