I smiled. “How about I make you come too?”

“I think it’s the law. You have to consummate the engagement.”

I was pretty sure that was just for marriage, but who was I to argue? Whatever it took to keep Victoria with me, I’d do. So I touched her in all the ways I knew she loved within the confines of the cramped space. I kissed her breathless. And then I joined my body, my very being, with hers.

“You’re mine,” I whispered against her neck. “All mine.”

“I’m yours.” She took my face in her palms. “And you're mine. All mine. Forever.”

My heart soared. My adrenaline pumped. Dax was right. There was no greater adventure than love.

EPILOGUE

Victoria

Iwas getting married! They said fairytales didn't come true, but I was living proof that they did. The only hitch was in telling my father. Not only did I need to let him know that Alex and I were getting married, but also that we were having a baby. The time had come. It needed to be done or it would seem like we were purposefully keeping it from him.

A part of me wanted to spare Alex from my father's reaction, but Alex was insistent that he needed to be there when we told him. "It would be disrespectful for me not to be there."

I arched a brow at him. "You don't need to ask for my hand."

He smiled as he pulled me close as we reached the door of my place... currently, ourplace until we found a new one suitable for a family. We were ready to head over to my father’s and I was nervous.

"I know you're your own woman, Victoria. It makes it an even greater honor that you've agreed to join your life with mine. And because we are joined, I need to be there with you. Henry needs to see that I am devoted to you. I am one thousand percent in. And if he doesn't like it or if he gets upset, well, it is what it is."

I kissed him. “Then let's go see my dad.”

When we arrived, Knightly gave me a hug and Mrs. Tillis came out to greet us as well. They were cordial to Alex, but clearly, they were being loyal to Dad by being cool toward him.

"Your father is out on the back terrace,” Knightly told us.

It was a good sign. My father was treating this like a family visit. If it was business or serious, he’d have us meet him in his office.

"Hello, Dad," I greeted as Alex and I stepped out onto the terrace. I'd been holding Alex's hand, and I gave it a quick squeeze before I released it and went to hug my father.

"How was London?" my father asked.

"Cold and rainy, but lovely as well." I gave Alex a smile over my shoulder.

Alex extended his right hand, scarred and deformed from what Pitney had done to it but for the most part functional. "Henry."

My father looked at his hand, and I thought for a minute that he wasn't going to accept it. Not because of how damaged it was but because he still wasn't ready to accept Alex.

Finally, he extended his hand, giving a single shake. "Alex."

It broke my heart that before me, the two of them would've greeted each other with a hug. But we had a lifetime to get back to that.

"Would you like something to drink? Coffee? I think we might have some fresh-squeezed orange juice."

We arrived between breakfast and lunch, so my father wouldn’t feel obligated to invite us for a meal and we wouldn’t feel obligated to stay for one.

“I’m fine. How about you, Victoria?” Alex pressed his hand to my lower back, a move my father was laser focused on.

“I’m fine.”

My father extended his hand, gesturing for us to sit. Alex guided me to a chair and then moved another chair close to me, then sat down.

My father remained standing, leaning against the back terrace wall and crossing his arms as he looked at us. He was clearly feeling guarded.
